Discovery of relics of St. Salvator’s protestant church in the old Świdnickie Suburbs in Wrocław made in 2006 became a reason of coming back to the topic again. The results of archaeological and architectural research conducted within business activity of Zdzisław Wiśniewski‘s AKME became a starting point for further research and study realized within the grant of Archaeology Department of Wrocław University cooperating with Wrocław University of Technology. Characteristic technique and technology of the church construction referring to well‑known buildings in Wrocław constructed at the end of the Middle Ages and at the beginning of modern times as well as detailed chronological stratification with precise dating of particular construction stages made with the use of historical sources allowed to face an issue of Wrocław construction workshop in 1450–1600. At the beginning, 3D reconstruction of the church in particular development stages was made. Next, a laboratory analysis of 15 samples of mortar from St. Salvator’s church and from the most important, well dated city buildings from that time was also made. Not only were statistical analyses of bricks made but also checking of a new method of their testing was carried out.

On the basis of Józef Pius Dziekoński’s projects: a house for the Industrial “Saturn” Society officials in Czeladź (1907), transformer building for the “Saturn” mine in Czeladź (1907), the administration building for the “Saturn” Society in Czeladż (1910), industrial architecture that is not just a package for technology, but creates a new aesthetic and functional qualities, is shown. such architecture also provides added value to the technology. analysis of the projects can lead to the conclusions that the work of architect can create the origins of new concepts,

In this study, we analyzed the methods and technologies used for constructing earthworks and military engineering in the latter period before the industrial revolution in Poland. The research object, the Warsaw Citadel, is a source of knowledge about military heritage from the aspect of conservation and protection of specific engineering achievements, which were dictated by early Russian geopolitical doctrine. Within the framework of the ongoing project of material heritage protection and popularization of history, the fortress has been transformed into a modern museum building. The new symbolic message of architecture was redefined, leaving behind the gloomy dominance elements in the scenery of the nearby city. In this study, reception tests of ground anchors were used for analysis. They were treated as a tool to determine the heterogeneity of fortification of historical earthworks. In the presented calculation procedure, limitations in the availability of geotechnical tests were o...

Industrial buildings from the beginning of the 20th century can still be found in Polish cities. Some of them have already been listed as heritage objects. Those structures where new technical solutions and materials were used, for example concrete, are especially interesting. Some of those objects are currently under a process of restoration with the aim to reconstruct and adapt them for completely new and different utility functions but without losing their important heritage value. In this paper, elements of the assessment procedure of the technical state regarding a historical survey, material examination and structural analysis, are presented on the example of two selected industrial buildings in which reinforced concrete was used as the main structural material. The main aim of the performed diagnostic procedure was verification of the load-bearing capacity of structures of the examined buildings. The calculation made confirmed that in case of not damaged concrete elements the...

In the south-western areas of Lower Silesia variou s industries for exploitation of local natural resources developed in the nineteenth century. A characteristic feature of this region is the multiplicity of industries present in considerable dispersion in rural and urban areas, generally in the form of small factories, es pecially the textile and mining ones. An important role in the region plays the exploitation o f mineral waters, lasting hundreds of years. Many spas were created in these areas in the past, in which numerous industrial facilities were built, associated with the extraction and proc essing of mineral waters. Basing at the case of historic buildings of mineral water bottlin g plant analysis of applied structural and material solutions which combine stone, brick, rein forced concrete and timber is presented in the paper, as well as a methodology used to assess th buildings’ current technical condition. There are described planned renovation technologies and method of...
