The information and communication technologies (ICTs) present in the Brazilian education system determine the development of technology literacy among teachers and students, which can be measured by ICT performance. The Technology Performance Scale (EDETEC) is a self-reporting psychometric instrument to verify what the students’ conceptions are about ICT and their performance in using technology tools. Considering the necessity of the acquisition of both technology literacy and reading comprehension skills to use ICT resources, this study aimed to know the ICT performance, reading comprehension achievement, and the possible relations among them. The participants were 63 Brazilian students from K10 and K11. The EDETEC and Cloze Test with options were applied by school and grade. The best ICT performance referred to the concept and productivity tools factor (F2), and the ANCOVA (analysis of covariance) statistic test identified the influence of the grade and genre in it. There was pos...

The use of online interactive media in English teaching and learning has been significantly increasing since past few years. The media got more popular after distant or online learning was encouraged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Teaching and learning through digital technology is currently experiencing very rapid changes. Changes, especially in the reading system can be seen through the use of digital material with technology-based. To achieve that context, this research was carried out to test an interactive reading material for Standard Two primary school student. The experiment group was exposed to the use of interactive multimedia material, while the control group was exposed to the use of conventional material. Quasi-experimental method was used in this study to test Standard Two Student's achievement in reading comprehension. Data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential methods. Descriptive data are mean and standard deviation. Inferential data were analyzed using ANCOVA statistic. The result showed that there were significant difference between the use of interactive and conventional material when the pre-test is statistically controlled or covariates. The result shows the implication that interactive multimedia reading material makes student more creative and critical in reading. Therefore, it is proposed to the Ministry of Education, Malaysia to intensify the use of interactive multimedia materials in order to improve the achievement of student in reading.

This study aimed to profile students’ information technology use and compare the levels of reading comprehension of 1150 eight graders from the public and private schools of metropolitan cities in Turkey. The findings indicated (p < .05) that (1) the rate of students who were using computers at home to assist their learning of curricular domains is very small, even at a negligible level, (2) more than 50% of the eight graders do have an access to a computer and one out of four students have the internet connection at home, (3) although more than half of the sample has a computer at home, the utilization of word processing, paint/drawing, or spreadsheet is not common. Further, results showed that students who had an access to the Internet scored higher on reading comprehension than students who did not have such an access. Similarly, the second comparison based upon having or not having a computer at home indicated that students having a computer scored higher. The paper suggested ways of developing reading comprehension skills and using internet facilities in schools.
