Urban India generates tones of wastes annually. Our country faces major challenges associated with waste management. Conventional garbage collection is not efficient since the authorities are not notified until the waste bin is full, and this leads to overflow of waste material. Efficient way of waste disposal and collection of disposed garbage is essential for a sustainable and clean India. This paper presents smart waste management using loT based waste bin for collection and monitoring the level of waste inside bin. The system is implemented using two ultrasonic sensors which is being controlled by Node MCU. One of the ultrasonic sensor detects the level of the waste in the bin and other detects the person approaching the bin to dispose the waste. This detection helps in automatic opening and closing of the lid. Servo motor is connected to the lid which serves the action of closing and opening of the lid. In this system, level of waste in the bin will be sent to concerned authorities. The loT data is stored and monitored using Blynk app. The proposed system is reliable, cost effective and can be easily implemented.

In today’s era it is very important to manage and handle the waste. The waste bins kept in the public places overflows before the garbage cleaners arrive to collect the waste. As a result, the bins are not cleared off on timely basis and foul smell, maintaining of hygiene, spread of disease are the biggest problems in the public area. Smart Dustbin is the need of the hour for the urban areas. The paper aims at the development of a smart garbage bin alert system. The complete IoT based dustbin is designed and developed to automate the process and monitor it efficiently. The system measures the level of waste inside the bin and auto locks the garbage bin and informs municipal authorities about the same stating the location of the bin so that corrective measure can be taken for timely collection of garbage and avoidance of the filthiness in the area. The system will also adapt with network environment to manage all information from waste management.
Waste collection and management is an integratedpart of both city and village life. Lack of optimized and efficient waste collection system vastly affect public health and costs more. The prevailing traditional waste collection system is neither optimized nor efficient. Internet of Things (IoT) has been playing a great role in making human life easier by making systems smart, adequate and self sufficient. Thus, this paper proposes an IoT based efficient waste collection system with smart bins. It does real-time monitoring of the waste bins and determines which bins are to emptied in every cycle of waste collection. The systemalso presents an enhanced navigation system that shows the best route to collect wastes from the selected bins. Four waste bins are assumed in the city of Mount Pleasant, Michigan at random location. The proposed system decreases the travel distance by 30.76% on an average in the assumed scenario, compared to the traditional waste collection system. Thus it redu...

Dynamic increase in the amount of waste and despicable dumping of waste has become a matter of concern because of the threat it causes to the environment. There comes the pivotal role of an automated waste segregate which avoid this plight and also reduces the difficulty of recycling. The importance and the economic value of waste is realized only when it is segregated. Currently there is no such system for segregation of dry and wet wastes. This system proposes a spot automatic waste segregation unit that effectively gives a solution to this problem. . For the separation of wet and dry waste capacitive sensors are used. The benefits of this work are, the waste has a higher potential for recovery and the occupational hazards of waste separating workers is also reduced. IOT Based Smart Trash consists of sensors, microcontroller and SMS module. The sensors detect the garbage level if the level reaches its average or maximum. The waste segregator as the name suggests, segregates the waste into three major classes: dry, wet. Waste is pushed through a flap into the proposed system. The inlet section is provided with open and close mechanism to regulate the flow of waste on to the bin. Wet detecting sensor is used to detect or identify the waste. The signal from the sensor initiates the push mechanism to discard the waste.

A big challenge in the majority of cities all over India is that of waste management. The key issue in waste management is that the garbage bins at public places get overflowed well in advance before initiating the next cleaning process. Improper management of waste can be a major factor for environmental pollution resulting in several health issues. The traditional way of manually monitoring garbage bins is a cumbersome process and utilizes more human effort, time and cost which can easily be avoided with present technologies. In order to handle such issues, we propose an IOT based smart waste management system which checks the waste level over the dustbins by using sensors. The ultrasonic sensors are interfaced with Arduino Uno 3 Microcontroller to obtain and send the level of garbage to the server of concerned authority after waste is filled up to particular level. Then authority can take required action by employing a worker to empty out the bins. So through this system, the real-time status of waste is monitored. Therefore one can ensure proper management of waste and this can be a step towards a quality environment which ultimately bodes well for human beings and other life-forms.

Environmental sanitation is very essential for healthy living. In our daily livelihood, garbage bins are usually kept without proper monitoring until they are filled to the point of overflowing onto the surroundings and spilling out, resulting in environmental pollution, which has serious health-related issues to human beings and the environment. For smart cities, garbage bins need to be monitored and controlled to ensure a healthy and clean environment. In the present technological advancement, real-time monitoring and control of waste disposal is a challenging area that needs urgent attention by the research community. The traditional approach of monitoring waste in garbage bins placed in strategic locations is a very tedious and inefficient way that consumes time, human effort, and cost, and this is also not in agreement with smart city requirements. This research paper presents the design and implementation of an internet of things (IoT) based Arduino microcontroller working with the ultrasonic sensors that detects the level of waste in the garbage bin placed in garbage locations and constantly at regular intervals display the status information as "filled", "half-filled", or "empty" on an LCD screen, as well as send the content level information at those intervals to a central web-server system that displays the garbage bin levels graphically. This is achieved using a microcontroller, a Wi-Fi module, and ultrasonic sensors. The programming of the Arduino Uno microcontroller was done with an Arduino IDE and embedded C programming language. The communication with the web server was done using the hypertext preprocessor PHP scripting programming language. The prototype was designed and simulated using Proteus 8.0 professional simulation software. This process helps to automate garbage bin monitoring and control. Experimental results demonstrate a promising solution to waste management and control. A number of testing runs were performed to evaluate the device workability in real situations. The measured distances from the garbage bins were transmitted to a website; this web page performs analytic and visualization and displays a bar chart showing the levels of the garbage waste, time, and location in real time for viewing. The proposed prototype is an innovative system that will help to keep the smart cities clean and tidy using ultrasonic sensors.

Internet of Things (IoT) can play a major role in keeping the city of Accra clean, greener, more efficient, and safer. This paper proposed a smart garbage collection on the grounds of level of garbage present in the dustbin. This study tries to present a garbage collection management solution based on providing intelligence to dustbin using IoT prototype with sensors. This system would help to maintain cleanness of the streets of Accra Ghana by sending signals through a sensor to a garbage collection unit alerting this unit of the collection of the garbage as and when the dustbins are full. The extreme programming (XP) method was used in building the system which uses ultrasonic sensors placed in the lids of the bins to detect the garbage level and compare it with the garbage bins depth. The system makes use of AVR family microcontroller, LEDs, a SIM800L GSM/GPRS Module and was powdered by a 12V transformer. It was found out that the use of this system assisted in identifying places or areas where garbage bins are full for collection and disposal. It was also found out that waste management companies that adapted the use of this system were achieving their goals of collecting bins at the right time as compare to companies that were not making use of such technology. It was concluded that waste management companies using the system perform better in terms of picking up bins that were full due to the signals received at any point in time which has made in Accra Ghana a community without garbage bins over flowing with rubbish.

For years, waste bin has been part of our lives; this has necessitated many inventions and innovations to make it automated. In this light, much research was channeled towards the opening and closing of the bin when the presence of human is sensed. However, this ma y be considered less smart since the bin will operate when the presence of human is sensed even though there is no intention to use it. To avert this ill, this paper presents the design and development of a smart waste bin. The objective of this paper is to develop a smart waste bin that detects the presence of man at a particular distance (1 meter for usage so as not to spill the dirt) and obeys voice command to open or close the lid. This is achieved by the use of PIR, ultrasonic module, voice recognition module, Arduino and servo motor. Results gotten after testing the developed system shows that the performance of the waste bin attains a better level of smartness compared to existing waste bin.
