This paper presents a work undertaken in a metal structures production system in a company producing several assorted products for the civil construction. The work aim was to improve the production process, solving several productive problems encountered in the production system, such as: deliveries delays, long lead times, too many material handling, high stocks, errors and defects in metal structures assembly and production, and unnecessary motions. The identified problems were analyzed and improvement actions were scheduled and subsequently implemented. These improvement actions were based on Lean production organizational model and some Lean tools. The 5S methodology was implemented in the workplace as well as mistake proofing mechanism, standardized procedures, production activity control system and layout reconfiguration. These actions led to a reduction of the lead time, work in progress, transports, delivery delays, defects and errors in assembly and production.

Today worlds lean manufacturing is very common term for waste elimination in manufacturing industry. This paper focused on lean manufacturing concept in XYZ Pvt. Ltd Pithampur. The concept of lean manufacturing is based on the waste elimination. Lean tool are helpful to indentify the waste and non value added thing in system and provide the tool for removing the wastes. Waste is reduced by the lean technique in XYZ manufacturing company; there is manufacturing work, the loder backhoe, vibratory compactor. The loader backhoe completes in several operation. In the XYZ plant there are two basic productions line one is conveyor line another is sub assembly line. The company manufactures 4 to 5 loader backhoes in a day, i.e. in 16 hours. The company has observed increase in demand of loader backhoes. The company has established a target of manufacturing 10 loader backhoes in a day. In order to reach the set target the company has to increase its productivity. This paper is based on data based analysis In XYZ company. Although the process and discrete industry share several common characteristics, there are areas where they are very different. Both manufacturing settings have overlap, but at the extreme, each has its unique characteristics. Using this concept try to enhancement of productivity, by using the concepts of lean manufacturing and single piece flow system in particular format.

Traditionally operated manufacturing industries are facing problems like low productivity, longer production lead time, high rework and rejection, poor line balancing, low flexibility of style changeover etc. These problems were addressed in this study by the implementation of lean tools like 5S, continuous flow, quick change over, total productive maintenance. After implementation of lean tools, results observed were used to assess the leanness of the plant floor. The key benefit of assessment is to identify the current state of production plant. And also to track the overall performance of the plant and it is evident that the leanness level can be improved by focusing on the key areas. This study is conducted in the steering knuckle manufacturing section in a manufacturing company. It includes time studies and current value stream mapping. Lean assessment was carried out using questionnaire which helped in diagnosing the lean status.

The thesis proposes a method for introducing lean manufacturing using string diagram in an operating CNG high pressure storage tank manufacturing job shop at Jayfe Cylinder Ltd. Haryana. By applying lean manufacturing using process layout diagram to produce part families with similar manufacturing processes and stable demand, plants expect to reduce costs and lead-times and improve quality and delivery performance. The thesis outlines a method for assessing, designing, and implementing lean manufacturing using process layout diagram, and illustrates this process with an example. A manufacturing cell that produces high pressure steel tank container for commercial & automobile customers is implemented at cylinder tank Machining Centers. The conclusion of the thesis highlights the key lessons learned from this process.

The issue of waste reduction and improvement of the organization of production contributes substantially to cost reduction and effective implementation of production tasks. This study identifies waste, and then presents the process of its reduction based on the available methods and tools of the LM concept. Given the above, the aim of this study is to assess the possibility of adapting LM tools in the steel industry in the context of waste reduction and improvement of the organization of production.

Lean Manufacturing (LM), a manufacturing system and philosophy, was originally developed by Toyota, Japan and is now widely practiced by many manufacturers throughout the world. Lean manufacturing is a systematic approach to identifying and reducing waste (non value-added activities) through continuous improvement by flowing the product at the pull of the customer in pursuit of perfection. LM is important, primarily because of waste reduction and reduction in lead time. The objective of this paper is to identify Lean manufacturing practices in small scale industries. For this purpose some case studies were chosen and critical observations are identified. Some of these annotations are improper utilization of resources, quality tools for improvements and improper plan for location and layout. This paper includes one case study with the initiatives, observations, results and conclusions of the study carried out in a small scale industry.
