People are now constantly on the move. They are in a rush and are hungry for anything fast and mobile. Food and transport are some examples. Fast food and snack joints litter around train stations. People want to pick up something light and rush off to their next destination.

The advent of new media has posed a challenge to conventional media. Their effect, for example, is felt on the circulation of print newspapers, especially in the USA. However in Malaysia, the effect of the new media on conventional media is still manageable. Malaysian newspapers still attract advertising dollars even with the presence of online newspapers. The two reinforce each other. Thus, in this paper, we argue that the presence of the Internet will not replace newspapers, just as radio did not replace newspapers and television. This paper will look at the present situation of conventional media, especially print newspapers vis-a-vis. the new media in Malaysia. We believe that the layout of newspapers here may change, but the content is still in the form of news. Even though the conventional media have their own online versions, they have not fully embraced the new technology. Even if there is a drop in circulation, it would be because the younger generation prefer the new media...
Jurnal Komunikasi Massa Vol, 2010

This paper examined the economic decisions and activities that influence communication in its varied forms and processes. Employing causal exploratory research design, while using literature review as a research instrument; the paper analysed the various economic factors impacting communication and outlined benefits that are derivable as the two continued in the mutually symbiotic relationship. It looked at the Information Age and how the place of the economy continues to rise due to globalization and industrialization of communication, socio-cultural, political and security exigencies. The transactional nature of human interaction on several fronts which has made communication key was also analysed. It examined the diverse economic situations that have a direct or indirect impact on communication-the process, channels, infrastructure, ownership and policies etc; and technological advancements that plays greater role in this direction. Hence, the article made the following recommendations, that: the authority should free the media space and allow media pluralism to flourish; efforts at the increment and spread of Internet broadband and infrastructure should be intensified; on the Brown envelope syndrome; media outlets especially in developing societies need to take as important the welfare of journalists; citizens should be motivated to acquire digital communication and digital literacy skills; journalists should engage in investigative journalism to deter the practice of inducement to acquire information.

87-97Communication, publication or promotion to public can be categorised as paid news or unpaid news. Paid news represents advertorial, commercial information, promotion of products, etc., while unpaid news is information available in newspapers, magazines, websites or blogs. In line with the rapid development of ICT, social media and networking are also being used to propagate information to the public quickly. They can lead to positive impact, but certain news created/generated can lead to significant negative impacts.. In Indonesia, social media provides opportunity for public engagement apart from being a political tool to drive public opinion and social mobilisation. However, social media produces news that can be categorised as fake news and framed news, especially those that come from untrusted resources or web sites. Fake news unquestionably delivers false facts in various fields including public understanding in science and technology. On the other hand, framed new...

Due to the opportunities that it offers, the Internet enriches and transforms traditional journalism with innovations and poses some risks in terms of sustainability. In the future, this area seems to be the main source of success because of the innovations redounded to journalism due to its technological supremacy. It maintains its dominancy due to the easiness such as allowing access to the news and controlling the news source by establishing different links, intelligence and research, reporting, verifying and storing the distributed speed and information and also allowing the newspapers being archived themselves. The problem of digital diversification on the status and use of information communication technologies as well as existing digital immigrants remains a structural obstacle today. The reliable place of journalism in society is due to the fact that it is easier for people who are technologically distant to access information. However, the speed of internet journalism, the use of multimedia, interaction, easy publishing and distribution of news, instant updating, unlimited space and time constraints have facilitated the digital orientation of computer literate individuals. However, even though the excess information loading affects the reliability of readers' ethical problems in news production, it is a fact that traditional journalism is in a transformation. In this study; the perspectives of individuals from different socioeconomic sections on traditional journalism and internet journalism were evaluated. The data was obtained by applying a questionnaire survey to 350 individuals selected by cluster sampling method. Significant relations were found between the socioeconomic levels of the individuals and other demographic features as well as access to newspapers, reading the daily newspapers, using the internet to access the newspaper, accessing various online news and traditional newspaper preferences, newsletters to follow newspapers, and interest in traditional journalism.
As the recent unprecedented penetration of online news into societies has shown no sign of stopping, there is still insufficient knowledge about the socio-technical dynamics of its diffusion to help forecast its future. What drives/impedes the take-up of online technologies in the newsroom? In what way do the much-touted features of online news contribute to the way people adopt, use and integrate it into daily life? How is this process affected by users' existing socio-psychological conditions (e.g. social status, news orientation, attitudes to new technologies, Internet experience)? Will online news gradually displace and then replace older news forms? Does the rise of blogs, forums and other "Web 2.0" platforms spell a slow death of journalism? What does all this mean for the future of news? This book explores the 160-year evolution of online news to answer these and related questions. Employing historical and survey data with an interdisciplinary and international perspective, it is directed to both newspeople and scholars in journalism studies, Internet studies, audience research, media sociology, media history, media economics, media psychology, innovation diffusion and so on.
