Corresponding Author: 1Godson O. Okafor The objective of this paper is to explore a psychological perspective to the use of the new media in capacity building. The new media refers to internet based avenues of exchange of information, news, knowledge and skills. Capacity is conceptualized in this paper as the ability of any individual to receive and/or retain knowledge and information which enables that individual to effectively undertake mental or physical tasks in an efficient and effective manner. Capacity building (as used in this paper) entails improving on already existing capacity, and this is done primarily through learning and restoration of biological integrity where there is defect. This expansion of horizon is most times dimensional and directed towards particular areas of need. Notwithstanding recent developments in the use of the new media in medicine and engineering, from the standpoint of the analysed theories, short comings of the new media seem apparent: the drive ...

Eligibility to work with the information and using of new media in a meaningful and efficient manner is part of a set of key competencies. These life skills are very important not only for young people, but also for all other groups of actors that are directly or indirectly involved in education and training. The dynamic development of the Internet and new technologies, as well as the time and expert complexity of the teaching profession, mean that teachers are not always able to keep up with their students. This applies particularly to user skills and dealing with new media platforms and services. These facts are one of the reasons why teachers need to get a better view of confidence and appropriate professional skills related to the use of new media. Diverse media platforms and user applications can be used for entertainment as well as for educational purposes. Potential of new media can be applied to the development of key competencies, values education, work on improving interpersonal relations and other opportunities that come with these new ways of learning and teaching. The paper deals with the possibilities of intensive development of information and media competencies in the post-millennium age. These new media skills can help to ensure that the enormous potential and capacity of global information society has been used effectively in the context of educational processes.

has thus far collected NCD risk factor data from more than 13,000 citizens of three LMICs (Bangladesh, Tanzania and Uganda), and has actively worked to improve capacity with partners worldwide. Objective: This paper focuses on how a research project, can also act as a capacity building activity through its research into collecting non-communicable disease risk factor data using different mobile phone modalities. Methods: This paper evaluates the activities undertaken by the project using the ESSENCE Planning Monitoring and Evaluation Framework for Research Capacity Strengthening. Results: The project was able to successfully integrate meaningful capacity development activities across all partners. Training, networking, sharing resources, joint data collection, and analysis across individual, organizational and project levels were some of the strategies used. The ESSENCE framework allowed a good assessment strategy for this type of work. Conclusions: This paper highlights the value of making capacity development a high priority for digital health research activities, while also considering the need to monitor and evaluate those activities in order for them to be meaningful and sustainable. It also considers how to utilize the ESSENCE Framework to evaluate capacity development activities through research, and how best to adapt the Framework to different programs.

To have a classroom full of life-long learners, one has to be a life-long learner oneself! With so much development happening & ease of accessibility, Information & Communication Technology (ICT) is playing an important role in the professional development of teachers. National Policy on ICT in School Education draft by MHRD has a section on capacity building of in-service teachers which states that capacity building of teachers will be the key to the widespread infusion of ICT enabled practices in the school system. Teacher capacities will be developed in instructional design, selection and critical evaluation of digital content, and strategies for effective use of digital content to enhance student learning.

Digitalization of the mass media, which has radically changed the information environment, creates new opportunities for self-education and upgrowth of the audience. The paper defines the communicative and cultural status of new media, characterizes the socio-cultural and technological aspects of their dynamics; substantiates the necessity of elaborating mechanisms for systematization of heterogeneous information flows and elaborating criteria for their evaluation in the era of globalization of the media sphere, what implies a qualitatively different level of media competence of the audience, provided with such factors as media education, media coverage, media criticism. The definition of concepts "media competence", "media enlightenment", "media education", "media criticism" is given and their functional areas are delineated. Social networks are considered as an important tool for media enlightenment which provides significant opportunities f...
Health systems research is widely recognized as essential for strengthening health systems, getting cost-effective treatments to those who need them, and achieving better health status around the world. Research involves posing questions, gathering information, and proposing answers, it represents the best starting point for decision-making. Research is the best way currently known to systematically search for new knowledge and generate new evidence. It is a process by which sources, objects and processes are studied to establish facts, test hypotheses, explore ideas, evaluate interventions, develop theories and advance new conclusions.

Medical learning is vast and it deals with several concepts that are difficult to master. With changing times, the method of learning and sharing of knowledge has taken a leap from textbooks and conventional classroom teaching to internet based interactions through online platforms, videos, online discussion forums, online courses, social networking sites, etc. This is not only a further enhancement to the traditional classroom knowledge sharing but also in accordance with the “Media Richness Theory”. As the discussion taking place in the new media is interactive and information rich, this makes the information in the new media richer than class lectures. However, there is little-reported data in this area of teaching and learning in healthcare academia. The purpose of this study was to assess new media use for learning and knowledge sharing by healthcare academia. A cross-sectional survey was carried out among the 243 students in healthcare institutes in the city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack with the use of a self-explanatory questionnaire. Our study found a general lack of overwhelming use of new media in the health academia. However, the majority of the students felt that it will be beneficial and there is a need to maximise its use.
