Die Idee zu diesem Vergleich zwischen Françoise Sagan und Petja Dubarova erwuchs zunächst weniger aus einer wissenschaftlichen Beschäftigung als eher aus einem Leseeindruck, was also auch heißt, dass die Evidenz der Nähe, Ähnlichkeit und Vergleichbarkeit dieser beiden Autorinnen hinsichtlich ihrer jeweiligen Sichtweisen und ihres literarischen Schaffens sich einem intuitiven, rezeptionsästhetischen Befund verdankt. Die wissenschaftliche Untersuchung wird vor diesem Hintergrund die Vorannahme einer Nähe logisch begründen, indem sie die These anhand von literarischen Texten beispielhaft unterfüttert. Hierfür wird eine thematische Annäherung gewählt, die auch das soziale Milieu bzw. die kulturhistorische und politische Situation, in der die beiden Schriftstellerinnen geschrieben haben, berücksichtigt.

In ihrem Essay erinnert sich Kersenboom an die Stimme ihrer Devadasi-Lehrerin, mit der sie von ihrer Familientradition, ihrem Leben und ihrer Hingabe an den Murugan-Tempel in Tiruttani sowie vom tragischen Aufstieg und Fall der Devadasi-Tradition erzählte. Using the term ›créolisation‹ borrowed from linguistics, Édouard Glissant describes his crosscultural reflections which bear witness to the insight that dichotomous thinking can no longer do justice to the problems our contemporary societies are facing today. To Glissant, the growing worldwide relations are analogous to the linguistic phenomenon of créolisation and the Creole languages. When different cultures meet in the Antilles, a »matière inédite« (Glissant 1997a: 25) of the Creole language and culture emerges, something new and unpredictable emerges from the global relations between peoples and cultures. When reading the texts of the Japanese writer Yoko Tawada, exactly this impression of the new and unpredictable in the language is created. Behind her very special use of the German language lies a strategy of poetic emancipation and liberation of the language, which the ludic interaction between Japanese and Germans entails. Against the background of Édouard Glissant's reflections and the texts of Yoko Tawada used as an example, this essay will show how writers and authors enrich language and literature on the basis of their own experiences with shifts, changes of perspective, and how they approach a particular idea of world literature or ›littérature-monde‹.

The article deals with rumors about the death of the Archbishop of Riga, Wilhelm of Brandenburg-Ansbach, which disseminated during July 1556, in the beginning of the conflict called the Coadjutor’s Feud (1556–1557). As the Archbishop had the central role in the Feud, his actual death could have radically changed the course of the conflict, and thus, these rumors need special attention. Based on available sources, this article presents an analysis of the timeframe and possible distributors of this rumor, as well as discussion about possible causes for the spread of this rumor. A letter of Polish king Sigismund II August to Mikołaj Radziwiłł the Red from 20th July 1556, which is deposited in the manuscripts department of the Russian National Library in Saint Petersburg, provides particularly vital knowledge to the exchange of information and spread of these rumors. For this reason, it is published and translated in the end of the article.

Critical edition and translation into German of the Mādayān ī Jōišt ī Friyān (MJF), a work of Zoroastrian literature composed in Middle-Persian language. The MJF consists of riddles imbedded into a vivid frame story, key elements of which can be traced back to the Avesta (Yt. 5.81-83). Created for edifying purposes the narrative recounts in an entertaining way how the wise and God-fearing youth Jōišt ī Friyān outwits the wicked sorcerer Axt. Under constant threat of death Jōišt succeeds in solving 33 riddle questions put forward to him by his ruthless adversary. In a counter move the youthful hero then poses three questions to the sorcerer, which the latter is incapable to answer on his own. In order to save his life, Axt rushes to hell, where he asks for demonic assistance. But his patron Ahriman proves unwilling to respond to the questions. With no answers ready Axt returns to Jōišt, accepts defeat and is slain in accordance with the rules of the contest.
