The editorial of this issue marks the transition of leadership for the journal Pneuma, reflecting on past editorial guidance and expressing optimism for future directions under new editors. It highlights the growth of the journal, its commitment to multidisciplinary perspectives, and acknowledges the contributions of various individuals and teams. The issue features a critical article examining female empowerment in Chinese pentecostal-charismatic churches, which challenges assumptions of progress and underscores cultural patriarchal constraints. Additionally, ecumenical reflections on the International Catholic-Pentecostal Ecumenical Dialogue are introduced.
International Journal for the Study of the Christian Church, 2021
On its twentieth anniversary, the International Journal for the Study of the Christian Church (Taylor & Francis) announces a renewed editorial board and its aims for the coming years. The Journal is concerned with the theology and identity of the Christian Church both historically and contemporary. The editors welcome submissions from a wide range of disciplines including ecclesiology, the arts, and spiritual, liturgical and practical theology. It is broadly ecumenical and although its origins are within the Anglican tradition, it welcomes contributions from all traditions of the Church. Its concerns are exploratory as it seeks to engage with issues of current concern. Special issues regularly discuss in depth specific subjects of historical and immediate interest. Contributors in recent years have included Rowan Williams, Grace Davie, David Brown, Sven-Erik Brodd and John Milbank. All submissions are peer reviewed, and articles do not normally exceed 8,000 words.
Pneuma, 2020
The ongoing development and maturation of pentecostal scholarship have reached new heights. Scholarship on global Pentecostalism is no longer what it used to be. It has decidedly moved into a new phase without abandoning its old roots. This issue of Pneuma seeks to capture the "spirit" of this evolution. In the beginning, the focus was on the history of the movement. Then came the effort and passion to lay a solid background for pentecostal biblical scholarship. The third wave witnessed the emergence of pentecostal scholars who rigorously laid out pentecostal pneumatological perspectives on constructive and systematic theologies. In the last ten years, we have witnessed pentecostal scholars producing philosophical theologies and philosophies that are increasingly set within broad frameworks that engage the wider academy and multiple philosophical traditions. This fourth phase includes pentecostal scholars who study global Pentecostalism using the tools of religious studies, sociology, political theory, and the like. The above summation, based on periodicity, gives the impression that pentecostal scholarship is in its fourth wave. This, however, is an incomplete perspective. It does not, indeed, capture the qualitative leap that has occurred in the field. We will say that, alongside these four phases, there is a fifth phase that weaves its "being" all through the four phases. The sheer force of its emergence moves the whole field of pentecostal studies to a new era, a new frontier, lifting it to a glorious height, and thus inaugurating an entirely new history of pentecostal scholarship. The lines of scholarship have shifted. The lines are falling in pleasant places. A new horizon has opened up. Yet, we will not say that pentecostal scholarship has come into its glorious age. There is still room to grow. As your new editors, we pledge to work with you as readers, reviewers, contributors, and advisers to nurture that growth. The growth that we are calling you to bear witness to today is not limited to North America and Europe. It is global; it is worldwide. Everywhere Pentecostals are eager to tell their own stories, and excellence can no longer be presumed to reside in certain hitherto privileged corners of the world. The circle of good scholarship has widened and is now generally recognized to have exceeded its previous confinements. The lines of the circle are deeper and wider, and those invited to participate in the circle are more diverse, more colorful, and more representative of the worldwide move of God's Spirit. The

Global Pentecostalism is the major renewal stream of world Christianity today. Some may even argue that it is one of the most innovative religions in recent human history. This rise to prominence and the movement from the margins of Christianity to the center of world Christianity has largely occurred in the last fifty years. The history of the Society for Pentecostal Studies (sps), founded in 1970, has participated in, mimicked, and challenged this movement during the same period. When the Society was founded, pentecostal scholarship and theology were often treated with disdain, if not disgust, by the global academy. Over the years, the sps, working with other academic associations and pentecostal intellectuals, has largely overcome this obstacle and marginalization to raise pentecostal theology and pentecostal studies to an enviable status in the global academy. Pentecostalism can now be said to be an ascendent tradition. This double issue of Pneuma is a tour of global pentecostal futures along with a long historical note on the Society that documents, honors, and frames the dynamics within the Society at its fiftieth anniversary. There are few who could provide the perspective that Glen Menzies does in his essay "The First Fifty Years of the Society for Pentecostal Studies: A Brief History," a narrative rich with documentation and anecdotes worth preserving in corporate memory. sps was founded in 1970 at a midday meeting of the Pentecostal World Conference in Dallas, Texas. Scholars, representatives of major fellowships, and others interested in the advancement of pentecostal studies attended this founding event and set the Society into motion. A debt of gratitude is owed to Vinson Synan, R. Hollis Gause, and William W. Menzies, who are rightly honored as the Society's founders. Glen Menzies, a longtime member of the Society, is the son of William, the Society's first president and the first editor of Pneuma. Glen in his own right has made many contributions in our guild in his three-decade career as a professor and dean at North Central University in Minneapolis. He has also done the Society a great service in narrating the story of our scholarly family. His careful scholarship has brought to the fore of our attention the distinguished role sps has played over years to support rigorous study of Pentecostalism even as it worked to create a "family-like" atmosphere among those who pursue this scholarship.

Canadian Journal of Pentecostal-Charismatic Christianity, 2019
We publish yet another issue as the calendar year draws to a close, and we find ourselves looking back and looking forward. This is a recurring ritual for us as editors of an annual issue. But this year, it is different not only as the end of another year and an annual publication, but we mark the end of an important project. The editorial team, after conversation with fellow Canadian Pentecostal scholars, recently made the decision to cease publication of the CJPC with this, the tenth annual issue. The reasons for this decision are many and varied. Over the past several years, it has become increasingly difficult to attract contributors to offer their work for publication. We understand why. For many scholars of Canadian Pentecostalism, there are competing demands on our time with busy lives of ministry and teaching. For academics, there is a pressure to publish, and although the CJPC is a peer-reviewed journal, our home-grown scholars are forced to make strategic decisions about where to concentrate their publishing efforts. For some among usand in conjunction with a growing respect for Pentecostal studies and their academiciansthis has created more opportunities to publish in the more prestigious, long standing journals recognized more widely in their scholarly circles and beyond one faith tradition. We celebrate and welcome such success.
