Abstract

RUSSIAN GEOPOLITICAL TRANSITION The structural changes that have occurred since the breakup of the Soviet Union and the birth of the Russian Federation bring to light the revival of bilateral relations between President Vladimir Putin and his colleague Joe Biden, of the United States, in his Democratic administration, focused on new negotiations and diplomatic solutions. The first official meeting of the two leaders on June 16, 2021, at Villa la Grange in Geneva, Switzerland, was highlighted by constructive conversations, following up on START. The Treaty between the United States of America and the Russian Federation on Measures to Reduce and Limit Strategic Offensive Weapons, also known as the New START Treaty, enhances US national security by placing verifiable limits on all Russian nuclear weapons within range, limiting the number of nuclear warheads and the launch of missiles and bombers on land and submarines. Strategic Offensive Limits: The new START Treaty entered into force on February 5, 2011. Under the treaty, the United States and the Russian Federation have had seven years to comply with the treaty's core limits on strategic offensive weapons on February 5, 2018, and are then obligated to maintain these limits as long as the treaty remains in force until 04 February 2026. On the economic front, the Russian Federation advances in a market economy and democratic society of law, stability, significant economic recovery, despite the 3% contraction in 2020. The World Bank expects Russia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to grow 3.2% in 2021, and at the same pace in 2022 against 2.9% and 3.2% respectively. Russia's economic contraction was the deepest in 11 years, but it outperformed the world economy that shrank 3.8% due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
