This paper discusses the interdependence between religion and politics in the pastoral diocese of Nova Iguaçu. Confirms that the pastoral practice and discourses Medrado by Don Adriano Hypólito, anchored to Vatican II and the subsequent episcopal conferences of Medellin and Puebla, will contribute to New Iguaçu is a diocese engaged in training leaders to commit in Social Movements, Political Parties and Trade Unions. Due toto his political stance, Don Adriano suffers persecution and is tortured under the military dictatorship in Brazil. However, these repressive practices have failed to cool the struggle against oppression and social misery so alarming in Nova Iguaçu.
