Abstract

The name of our work is Traces of Romanticism in the Second New Poem. In this study, by emphasizing the anti-modernity and capitalism aspect of the Romanticism literature movement, these aspects were determined in the Second New Poem and the traces of romanticism were traced in the poems of Sezai Karakoç, Ece Ayhan, Edip Cansever, Cemal Süreya, İlhan Berk and Turgut Uyar. Since our work is not an independent work of romance, we briefly provided information on these aspects of romanticism in the context of modernity and anti-capitalism, whose traces we seek in the Introduction to Second New Poem. We continued our research by explaining the points we briefly explained in the Introduction section in the main sections. The basis of our work is based on the idea that Romanticism is the pioneer of modernist literature and that the romantic attitude continues until today. In our research, we based on the ideas of the Early German Romantics, Jean Jacques Rousseau and sociologists and philosophers who were influenced by them, Karl Marx, Max Weber, Ferdinand Tönnies, George Simmel. In the First Chapter, where the thesis originally started, one of the most important themes of Romanticism, individual feeling was emphasized. In this sense, it has been discussed and evaluated how the individual anxieties experienced by the modern individual in the face of the problems arising from the capitalist relations caused by modernism are reflected in the Second New poem. In the Second Part of the study, the perception of civilization, another important theme of Romanticism, was mentioned and the opposition of the Second New poets to the dominant results of modernism including technology was emphasized. In the Third Part, the perception of nature, which is also an important theme, is discussed and how our poets deal with the conflict between civilization and nature has been highlighted. In the conclusion part, our determinations about the appearance of the romance movement in the Second New poem were subjected to a holistic evaluation. The relationship between the aforementioned poems and romantic sensation style has been tried to be grounded in this section.
