This folio documents the exhibition RETURNS, curated by David Teh for the 12th Gwangju Biennale, 2018. The exhibition was conceived as a walk-in magazine, a lounge space in the Biennale Hall populated by a series of art historical vignettes mounted on large, moveable plywood displays. Each carried a story drawn from the first four editions of the biennale (1995-2002), informed by research in the Gwangju Biennale Foundation archives. The vignettes were also distributed for free as A3 cards, with designs by Ella Sutherland based on her analysis of printed matter from the early editions. This loose-leaf exhibition history has been bundled as a PDF folio for wider dissemination. Texts by David Teh, SooJin Lee & Grace Samboh. Design by Ella Sutherland. Special thanks to Han Jungsun and Cho Inho.

Various virtual exhibition spaces have emerged as technology advances. Virtual exhibition spaces have developed based on a sense of presence. In this paper, we introduced nine types of the virtual exhibition spaces according to virtuality and interactivity. The degree of virtuality and interactivity does not mean progress. However, as virtuality increases, the role of intermediation for creators and visitors by curators and digital technicians expands. In addition, the greater the interactivity, the greater the role of visitors. As a result, collaboration between artists and the others will be expanded in virtual exhibition spaces. Virtual exhibition spaces will become more virtual, sophisticated, and diverse forms as technology advances in the future. The active participation of visitors will also be expanded. In conclusion, I think that virtual exhibition spaces are not opposed to real exhibition spaces, but will develop by influencing each other.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate an airline service training program based on the CIPP model. Evaluation areas were divided into context, input, process, and product. We analyzed the factors which influenced program satisfaction and recommendation of the training program. Two hundred and one learners who participated in an airline service training program were selected for a survey. The results of this study are as follows. The factors which positively influenced training satisfaction were educational goals in context evaluation, interaction between learners and instructors, managing programs in process evaluation, and training performance in product evaluation. The factor which negatively influenced training satisfaction was human resources in input evaluation. On the other hand, the factors which positively influenced training recommendation were educational goal, assessing needs in context evaluation, interaction between learners and instructors, supporting programs in process evaluation, and training performance in product evaluation. The factor which negatively influenced training recommendation was assessing needs in context evaluation. The results of this study are expected to make an important contribution to the development of service training programs in airlines.

This study examines the characteristics of Record of a Journey to Japan (扶桑紀行, Pusang kihaeng) written during the 1719 embassy and the perception of Japan by its author, Chŏng Hukyo. Chŏng was recognized as a prominent poet among Noron literati such as Kim Chang-hŭp and Sin Chŏng-ha during the reign of King Sukjong. As a soldier of the 1719 mission to vice envoy Hwang Sŏn, he was responsible for exchanging poetry with the Japanese along with the embassy’s clerks and secretaries. Joining the mission to Japan was a form of leisure for him, and this is apparent from how his emissary record focuses on detailed such sightseeing experiences rather than on information. The record mainly focuses on sensory descriptions of scenery and unique sights as well as recreating the exchange of diaries and poetry in written conversations with Japanese literati. In particular, it is noteworthy for its vivid descriptions of diverse experiences such as whale hunting and sites of poetry exchange not found in other emissary records. Moreover, Chŏng’s perception of Japan can be analyzed from three aspects. The first of these is approval of Japan’s legal system and national strength. The second is a sensitive reappraisal of Japanese character and customs from a sympathetic viewpoint. The third is a new understanding of Japan’s civilization through an adaptation of the discourse of Sino-barbarian dichotomy (華夷論, hwa-yi-ron). The last is particularly interesting in its adaptation, or roundabout modifying, of the premises of an existing concept among Chosŏn intellectuals to produce a new understanding. The above investigation of Record of a Journey to Japan demonstrates several important points for analysis in research on emissary records. A comparison with records from the same or different time periods will broaden the scope of the study.

Automobile manufacturing consists of body-line, painting-line, and assembly-line. These production lines are disposed in series and go through a flow process, so according to the status of pre & post processing, a suspension happens in a line by a starvation(impossibility of production by insufficient supply) or blocking(impossibility of production by exceed capacity). Therefore, to prevent a loss of production coming from a starvation or blocking, a storage such as WBS or PBS is independently owned and operated. The paper suggests the simulation model of integrated storage which can operate it by integrating each storage performing a role as a buffer of line. Specifically, the paper found the answers about reasonable number of Stacker Crane and AGV(Automatic Guided Vehicle) and suggested a methodology of operation which is available to operate them. Also, it compared an efficiency between a model of current storage and integrated storage through simulation. As a result, it turned out that the model suggested in the paper was more efficient on suspension of painting-line stop than a current storage.

The set of three stone drums remaining at the front garden of Westin Chosun Hotel was one of the monuments planned in the early of 1900s to commemorate King Kojong's 40th anniversary on the throne. While the drum work fell behind due to budgetary constraints, a ceremonial structure called Seokgojeon(石鼓殿) was built in 1903 for the purpose of housing the upcoming drums which were completed in 1909. In 1935, those stone drums and Seokgojeon were forced to be apart from each other by Japanese colonial government : while the drums were moved to Hwangudan(圜丘壇) area adjacently, Seokgojeon was dismantled and relocated in Japanese temple honoring the first residency-general, Ito Hirobumi(伊藤博文) on the northeast part of Namsan. This building has been known to stay intact after the Korean War and be demolished due to the construction of Yeongbingwan(迎賓館) in the early 1960s, which belongs to The Shilla Hotel presently. We examined well-known records quoted in the preceding researches and discovered several documents and photographs from National Archives of Korea to find out that Seokgojeon was relocated once again to Changkyeongwon(昌慶苑) in 1965-1966, and survived until 1983. Through this research, the architectural value of original Seokgojeon and the significance of its structural modification with reinforced concrete during the latest relocation are revealed.
