PRÁCTICA SOBRE TEMPLE Y REVENIDO Tratamiénto térmico en Aceros

2020, PRÁCTICA SOBRE TEMPLE Y REVENIDO Tratamiénto térmico en Aceros

During this laboratory report, we are going to describe the process for the heat treatment of quenching and tempering for a piece of steel that we are working on. The quenching and tempering process is one of the most important processes when we are working with steels, this because what we do with these processes is to modify the physical, chemical and mechanical properties of the metal piece that we are working on. What we do with tempering is to bring the metal to a very high temperature (1652 °F approximately), and then we rapidly cool it with oil or other salt fluids; What we achieve with this treatment is to improve the hardness of our steel, making it stronger to wear, but in a certain way it is weak since its structure is under high tension, which is not the most recommended if our piece is going to be subjected to stress, for this reason, it is recommended to temper the parts that we temper. In tempering what we do is reheat our steel, at a much lower temperature compared to tempering (between 320 °F and 932 °F approximately), what we achieve after carrying out this process is to relieve the stresses in our steel caused by tempering; When carrying out this process, what we achieve after carrying out these treatments is that our piece is much stronger and more resistant to wear. A recommended data is not to perform more than two (2) temperings, since we run the risk of increasing the size of the grains of the structure of our steel, which can generate fatigue points (Points where our steel can fracture). And if our piece is going to be subjected to very strong efforts, it is advisable not to carry out more than one tempering, since the more times we carry out the tempering, we will reduce the quality of the tempering that we have carried out previously.
