Objectives:To assess the efficacy of rehabilitation for dizzy patients after recent acute vestibular disturbance.Methods:Forty patients recently hospitalised for an acute episode of rotational vertigo which lasted days were randomly divided into two groups. The first group (20 patients; group R) underwent active rehabilitation, while the second group (20 patients; group C) were told only to ‘perform their daily activities’. Group R subjects underwent a total of 10 sessions of rehabilitation, including exercises on a stabilometric platform, point de mire and a series of five exercises repeated five times daily. All patients performed static stabilometry (posturography), undertook the dynamic gait index test, and completed a dizziness handicap questionnaire and a visual analogue scale for anxiety, at baseline and on completion.Results:At 25 days, the rehabilitated patients obtained better results for all recorded outcomes, compared with the control group. Vest ibular rehabilitation (VR) is an excellent therapy for dizziness patients. However, despite well managed, sometimes results are not suitable. Aim: evaluate VR outcome between patients according to dizziness etiology. Study design: Retrospective review of medical records. Method: Patients' records were analyzed between January 2002 and December 2004. As for inclusion criteria, patients should have had finished VR therapy and an established diagnosis. Patients were included in three VR outcome groups and compared according to etiology. Results: according to VR outcome 13 patients had no improvement, 24 had partial improvement and 22 complete improvement. The main etiologies were cervical syndrome, trauma, metabolic disorders, central nervous system disorders, anxiety and mood disorders, autoimmune disease and orthostatic intolerance. Patients with metabolic disorders showed better VR outcome than the others. Conclusion: VR therapy combined with clinical etiology treatment is an excellent approach for dizziness patients.

Introduction & Objective: Vertigo in the elderly is relatively common, but only a few studies are available. Vestibular rehabilitation (VR) therapy is an important therapeutic option in treating patients with significant balance deficits. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of vestibular rehabilitation on vertigo symptoms in elderly patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). Materials & Methods: In a clinical trial design, 46 patients older than 60 years (aged 61 to 72 years) with BPPV who referred to the ENT center of Imam Khomeini Hospital, Ahwaz, were studied. Background Dizziness and vertigo affect around 15% of adults annually and represent common reasons for contacting health services, accounting for around 3% of all emergency department visits worldwide. Vertigo is also associated with excessive use of diagnostic imaging and emergency care and decreased productivity, primarily because of work absenteeism. Vestibular rehabilitation is an evidence-based treatment for chronic dizziness and supervised group exercise therapy has recently been shown to be effective after vestibular neuritis, a common cause of acute onset vertigo. However, such interventions are not readily available and there is a need for more easily accessible tools. Background and Aim: Evaluating the effectiveness of vestibular rehabilitation (VR) in patients with vestibular lesions has always been a challenge. The questionnaires that are used for this purpose mostly show the degree of vestibular disability rather than providing information about improvement of vestibular dysfunction. This study aimed to evaluate whether video head impulse test (vHIT) that is used for the examination of vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), is a useful method for predicting the effectiveness of VR and has a correlation with dizziness handicap inventory (DHI) score. Methods: Participants were 42 patients with unilateral peripheral vestibular hypofunction (UPVH) undergoing VR.
