Water Pollution has become a major problem with increasing urbanisation and rapid industrialisation. Despite the abundance of water, pollution causes the water to be less useful and more harmful to health, environment, and life on our planet. In past few years, many researchers have focussed on use of biological & physical treatment methods that are cost-effective and cause no harm to the environment instead of chemical methods. The aim of the present work is to study the effect of organic solid wastes in the form of orange peels, marigold flowers, and neem leaves on domestic wastewater treatment. Eco-enzyme solutions were prepared using Dr. Rosukon’s method from the wastes mentioned which involves mixing jaggery along with the wastes and water in the ratio of 1:3:10. The eco-enzyme solution was then allowed to be prepared through 90 days of fermentation process. The three eco-enzyme solutions – after 10 days of filtration – were then mixed with domestic wastewater samples individua...

There is urgent need to reclaim the water which gets polluted due to overexploitation and negligence of the human kind to check the water scarcity problem. Many efforts have been made to recycle that water by the help of technologies based on physical, chemical and biological processes. Out of these technologies, Bio-enzyme is the cost effective, eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable option. For the treatment of a sample of domestic wastewater in this investigation, bio-enzyme produced through the fermentation of vegetable and fruit waste was employed. The wastewater samples were mixed with a 5, 10, and 15% bio-enzyme solution and digested for 5, 15, and 25 days. The results demonstrated that bio-enzyme may significantly reduce the TDS, BOD5, and COD characteristics of wastewater, while 100% removal of ammoniacal nitrogen and phosphate was shown at low concentrations of bio-enzyme solution. The pH showed no significant fluctuation and it remains acidic. Low pH of the wastewater sample bio-enzyme makes it suitable for reducing salinity of the soil caused due to excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides. Bio-Enzyme extracted from fruit and vegetable waste gave almost similar results; No large variation was observed. With the help of bio-enzymes, wastewater may be improved and made suitable for a variety of uses. Additionally, using bio-enzymes can aid in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the disposal of chemicals used in wastewater treatment operations, making it environmentally sustainable. Also reduces the burden on landfill sites by utilizing the waste as resource.

Eco enzyme is a fermented solution from mixture of sugar, fruit wastes and water in the ratio of 1:3:10. It can be used as pretreatment for aquaculture sludge before other further treatments in order to minimize various environmental problems that caused by high nutrient contents of the sludge. In this study, the characteristics of the eco enzymes (tomato and orange wastes) were investigated and its potential efficacy of parameters removal within 10 days treatment was also evaluated. Results showed the enzymes were acidic, composed of high total solids (TS), total dissolved solids (TDS), biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), citric acids and contained biocatalytic enzyme activities which are protease, amylase and lipase. The enzymes were also showed a higher removal percentage of total suspended solids (TSS), volatile suspended solids (VSS), total phosphorus (TP), total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) and COD approximately 87%, 67%, 99%, 91% and 77% respectively in the optimum concentration of eco enzymes (10%). Besides, use of orange eco enzyme (OEE) was showed higher removal percentage compared to tomato eco enzyme (TEE) due to high organic acid contents. These findings may contribute to the effectiveness of enzymatic pretreatment which can reduce the inhibitors and improve further treatment processes in treating other industrial wastes

Garbage enzyme is a fermentation product. It is prepared from organic waste, water and brown sugar. It is prepared by fermentation of jaggery, organic waste and water mixture with the ratio of 1:3:10. It takes a period of three months. Bio catalytic activity of enzyme shows that it contains protease, amylase and lipase activities. Enzyme is capable of degrading protein, starch and lipids present in wastewater. This study assesses the effectiveness of different types of garbage enzymes prepared with different raw materials such as fruit waste, eicchornia and bagasse. Garbage enzyme solution is added directly in wastewater with different proportions in order to treat it. However it is observed that, there is no reduction in the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) of the wastewater. Hence another method is used which is termed as enzyme immobilization method. This method is applied to treat synthetic wastewater prepared in the laboratory. Sodium alginate beads are used for enzyme immobilisation. The immobilised enzymes are used and tested for treatment of synthetic wastewater. Study revealed that, the enzymes prepared using fruit waste found to be most effective for reducing COD up to 80%. Enzyme prepared using eicchornia found to be most effective for reducing Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) up to 48% and Ammonia Nitrogen reduction is up to 77%. Enzyme prepared using bagasse found to be most effective for reducing phosphate up to 82%.

Humankind has significantly degraded the quality of the world's water supplies as a result of massive industrialization in emerging nations like India. Due to these high levels of pollution, not just humans but all other life forms are now at jeopardy from the water's quality. Several measures have been taken to preserve the ongoing cycle of survival as water is a necessity for all life forms to flourish. Researchers have been working on new methods for water reclamation for a several years already, focusing on biological or physical wastewater treatment rather than chemical treatment, which degrades the quality of groundwater and damages the ecosystem. The wastewater is digested for 3, 5, and 8 days by mixing it with (1:1000) bio enzyme solution. COD (chemical oxygen demand), BOD (biological oxygen demand), alkalinity, pH, nitrate-nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, ammoniacal nitrogen, phosphorus, and e. coli were measured. Organic biocides were found to be capable of removing COD, BOD, ammoniacal nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, and nitrite nitrogen from samples while lowering the phosphorus content to acceptable levels specified by Indian Standard Codes. There were no significant differences in the pH characteristics observed. Organic biocides can be used as a cost-effective option for wastewater treatment in both urban and rural areas to improve water quality and make it suitable for various agricultural uses.
