Plant biomass represents one of the most abundant and underutilized biological resources on the planet, and is seen as a promising source of material for fuels and raw materials. At its most basic, plant biomass can simply be burned in order to produce heat and electricity. However, there is great potential in the use of plant biomass to produce liquid biofuels. However, biofuel production from agricultural by-products could only satisfy a proportion of the increasing demand for liquid fuels. This has generated great interest in making use of dedicated biomass crops as feedstock for biofuel production [11]. The examples of 2nd generation biofuels are cellulosic ethanol and Fischer–Tropsch fuels. The production of 2nd generation biofuels is non-commercial at this time, although pilot and demonstration facilities are being developed. Therefore it is anticipated that, these 2nd generation biofuels could significantly reduce CO 2 production, do not compete with food crops and some types can offer better engine performance. When commercialized, the cost of second generation biofuels has the potential to be more comparable with standard petrol, diesel, and would be most cost effective route to renewable, low carbon energy for road transport [4].

O objetivo geral da coorte é avaliar a saúde bucal, a saúde geral, o estado nutricional, a qualidade de vida e os sintomas depressivos em idosos vivendo independentemente, na cidade de Carlos Barbosa, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Em 2004, ano em que a linha de base foi realizada, as estimativas revelam que a cidade tinha 22.215 habitantes, dos quais 2.167 tinham 60 anos ou mais. Houve acompanhamento em 2008 e 2012.

The stability of slopes is a topic of great interest to the geotechnical engineer, given the significant economic losses, and even human, resulting from the slopes collapse. It’s estimated that the landslides outbreak has already caused thousands of deaths and tens of billions of dollars in annual losses worldwide. The phenomena of instability of slopes are conditioned by many factors, such as climate, the lithology and structures of rock, the morphology, the anthropic and others. The analysis of geological and geotechnical conditions of landslides provides an appraisal of each of the factors involved in the processes of instability of slopes, allowing the achievement of results of interest with regard to the mode of action of factors. The current work aims at the use a Hybrid system that uses the Neural Network and Fuzzic Logic (Neuro-Fuzzy) to create a model that, in qualitative form, provides a prediction of the potential of slope rupture. To fulfill this objective, we studied the factors involved in the processes of instability of slopes, and how these factors are interrelated. Parametric analyzes were carried out to provide data for the Neuro-Fuzzy model. It is presented in this work, one history case well documented for the validation of the Neuro-Fuzzy Model and Among the main findings includes the capability of Hybrid Neuro-Fuzzy Modeling in predicting the potential of slope rupture, appearing as a tool capable of assisting in the detection of slopes with potential for rupture.

O artigo aponta os resultados de uma reflexão feita sobre como pode-se combater o uso de drogas através da educação. O mundo das drogas vem sendo conhecido pelos adolescentes cada dia mais cedo. E, cada vez com mais freqüência, ocorrem chacinas, em que, de uma só vez, são eliminados vários jovens, de ambos os sexos. O motivo da violência é quase sempre o mesmo, a eliminação do consumidor que não pagou pela droga consumida ou para eliminar vendedores rivais. É através dessa visão que o Programa Educacional de Resistência às Drogas e à Violência (Proerd) vem mostrando aos adolescentes um caminho mais seguro. A participação da Proerd na vida dessas pessoas contribui para que a comunidade se sinta mais segura e diante disso, alunos, pais, professores e dirigentes compartilhem com maior entusiasmo do esforço da Polícia Militar em transformar as escolas em centros de referência da comunidade para o fortalecimento da cidadania e combate às drogas e a violência para a conquista de uma vida melhor para todos.
