Background: An understanding of the febrile illness experience of Nigerian nomadic Fulani is necessary for developing an appropriate strategy for extending malaria intervention services to them. An exploratory study of their malaria illness experience was carried out in Northern Nigeria preparatory to promoting malaria intervention among them. Methods: Ethnographic tools including interviews, group discussions, informal conversations and living-in-camp observations were used for collecting information on local knowledge, perceived cause, severity and health seeking behaviour of nomadic Fulani in their dry season camps at the Gongola-Benue valley in Northeastern Nigeria. Results: Nomadic Fulani regarded pabboje (a type of "fever" that is distinct from other fevers because it "comes today, goes tomorrow, returns the next") as their commonest health problem. Pabboje is associated with early rains, ripening corn and brightly coloured flora. Pabboje is inherent in all nomadic Fulani for which treatment is therefore unnecessary despite its interference with performance of duty such as herding. Traditional medicines are used to reduce the severity, and rituals carried out to make it permanently inactive or to divert its recurrence. Although modern antimalaria may make the severity of subsequent pabboje episodes worse, nomads seek treatment in private health facilities against fevers that are persistent using antimalarial medicines. The consent of the household head was essential for a sick child to be treated outside the camp. The most important issues in health service utilization among nomads are the belief that fever is a Fulani illness that needs no cure until a particular period, preference for private medicine vendors and the avoidance of health facilities. Conclusions: Understanding nomadic Fulani beliefs about pabboje is useful for planning an acceptable community participatory fever management among them.

Lydia P. De la Rosa argues that “Values are expressed specially in literature.” Based on this claim, the researcher attempted to identify Filipino values in selected siday (or Lineyte-Samarnon poems) written by “paragsiday” (or poets) in the town of San Julian, Eastern Samar. This research used three theories on values in analyzing the poems: the classification of Filipino values developed by Timbreza in 2003; the taxonomy of values developedby Bulatao, Gorospe, Cordero, Paterno and Crisol; and Schwartz’s Theory of Basic Human Values in 1992. Intertextual Analysis was also used to help evaluate the Filipino values that are contained in the poems. Twenty-two values were determined from the ten Lineyte-Samarnon poems. Nineteen of these are classified as Recurring Filipino Values or values typically possessed by Filipinos or San Juliananons, while three values were not included in any classification or theory. These values are: listening to advise, giving importance to the elderly, and...

This study aimed to determine the experiences of students in remote areas upon their Learning Modality, Modular. The researcher focused on finding out the following: Students 'Most Outstanding Experiences; Challenges Faced by Students; Students' Methods of Solving Their Problems. Descriptive phenomenological is used in the research. Respondents of this study were selected using random sampling. Respondents of this study were from in Juban National High School which consists of 25 Senior high students living in remote areas. Semi-structured questionnaire was used in an interview to gather the needed data. This study finds out students' experiences in remote areas on their Modular Learning according to the learning modules, internet connection, time, and financial. Absence of knowledge in answering modules, slow internet connectivity, lack of modulation time and finance for transportation and other educational expenses have impact on the learning of the participants during Modular Learning. This study proposed to the Department of Education (DepEd) to provide an adequate funding in the manufacture of learning modules for the effectivity of students' learning. Provides a better internet connection and time frame are to consider. Wider information, methods and learning are to be shared and discussed to be use by the students in remote areas in the present condition of Education.

The study is an initial attempt to document idiomatic expressions used in oral conversations in the dialect spoken by the people in the town of Gubat, Sorsogon, Bicol Region, Philippines. Descriptive analysis was the method used in this research. Data was collected through interviews and focused group discussions that involved volunteer participants whose ages ranged between 28 and above. Thematic analysis was used in analyzing the answers to the question how well the people of Gubat understand the idiomatic expressions of their town. There are different themes that are inclusive in Gubatnon idiomatic expressions. These idioms reflect the culture of the town of Gubat, their geographic identity as well as their history. It is recommended that these idioms be used in making literary pieces like poems and stories so that the language of the town would be preserved and enriched. These idioms must also be used in schools most specially in the elementary so that the children will have a wider and clearer grasp of things using their very language. Parents are also encouraged to use idiomatic expressions at home so that it may be instilled in the minds of Gubatnon children hence the preservation of this beautiful culture of using idioms in everyday conversation.
