Spricht Ben Sira von Polygamie? - Jahrbuch Uni Sbg 1996, 57-64, 1996

From the Hebrew text of Sir 37:11, it seems reasonable to suppose that Sira was well aware of polygamous marriages. It should be added that no more than two wives are mentioned in the comparable biblical texts. If one wishes to coin words, then "duo-gamy" would describe these relationships best. In any case, Sira does not condemn that way of life as such, but points out that living together proves to be extremely difficult, indeed nerve-wracking, for all those involved. The man is the cause of arguments, because he usually loves one of his two wives more than the other (compare Rahel - Lea, Hanna - Pennina).

Texts and Contexts of the Book of Sirach / Texte und Kontexte des Sirachbuches (ed. by Gerhard Karner, Frank Ueberschaer, Burkard M. Zapff; SBLSCS 66; Atlanta: SBL 2017), 199-237. Uncorrected proofs. The vorlage of the syriac translation of Ben Sira was an extended and reedited hebrew recension of the book of Ben Sira. It included a concept on the topic "book of live" in chapter 1, 43 and 50 and some other passages in the hebrew book. In 2015 new fragments of a rhymed hebrew paraphrase on the hebrew Ben Sira could be identified using the Friedberg Genizah Project Portal. The 26 pages belong to a tractate from the 13th century with elements of Piyyut and are based on a medieval hebrew version of Ben Sira with texts of the chapters Sir 22-23, 34-45, 48 and 50-51 some of which are not known from other hebrew Ben Sira manuscripts. Ezra Fleischer had published half of this paraphrase in his work on Said Ben Babshad but had not been used widely in Ben Sira research. The thesis of Moshe Segal of a third hebrew version of Ben Sira underlaying the syriac version is discussed with these new facts.

SummaryThe objective of this paper is to understand certain developments in contemporary arts from an economic point of view. The peculiarity of art is its aesthetic quality in combination with its value as an investment object. Accordingly, four segments of the art market may be distinguished: warehouse art, business art, connoisseur art and high art. Because of their high aesthetic quality, only the last two segments of the market are of interest in this paper. On the market for high art, a dominance of investors is to be expected because this art has to please the average taste of investors. The market for connoisseur art will be dominated by an art elite which is merely interested in aesthetic quality. One of the crucial elements of contemporary art is its chutzpah. The new Ben Sira fragment of manuscript C, which Elizur had published recently in Tarbiz 76 (2008), shows only the lines of the manuscript. In addition her numbering could confuse a little. So it was necessary to proof the cola and compare them with the text editions. In summary there were found the following cola: Sir 3:27a.b(A); 6:5a-10b(A), 12a-15b(A), 18a.ba; 20:30a-31b; 21:22a-23b, 26a.b; 22:11a-12b, 21a-22b; 23:11a.b; 25:7c.d; 36:24b(B,Bm) and 37:1a, 2a-2b(B,Bm,D).
