The Pentecostalism/Charismatic Christianity is one of the fastest growing Christian movements around the globe. Despite its raging influence and impact on the global Christianity, a study on Pentecostalism is a very recent development. For several long years and decades, and even today, Pentecostals are considered as a community without theology. In fact, the term ‘Pentecostal theology’ in itself is treated as oxymoron for it is a popular understanding that the Pentecostals are anti-intellectual. Furthermore, a majority of Christians see Pentecostalism as simply an extension of evangelicalism. Indeed, one of the major challenges for studies in Pentecostal theology is its varieties. The following paper is a general and brief survey of the nature of the Pentecostal theology outlining its distinctiveness from the other theological disciplines.

In many parts of the world especially in Africa, the choices people make regarding which religious organisation to affiliate with is informed by the cost and benefits the person or group of individuals involved in it stand to gain. Using cost and benefit in deciding which religion to affiliate with put religion in a problem solving position in recent times. Using a purposive sampling technique, a total of 60 research participants were engaged in an interview to elicit their views on the development of Pentecostal churches (divine industries). The findings revealed three different waves of Pentecostalism in Ghana over the last one century. Each wave was in response to a peculiar type of problem at the time. The paper thus concludes that Pentecostalism as a religious faith remains the same, but its forms and strategies continue to change in response to social and spiritual problems at any given period, thus sustaining its life span and influence in society.
Pentecostalism, Charismaticism and Neo-Prophetic Movements Journal, 2020
Undoubtedly, Pentecostalism is the most influential religious movement of the twentieth century. Not only has this movement changed the religious landscape of the world, but it has also contributed enormously to the growth of Christianity in many societies. The contributors to the rapid growth of Pentecostal churches as compared to mainline historic churches have attracted scholarly attention for some time now. Current theological interest in this subject has prompted this study that traces the success of Pentecostalism to its adherence to foundations laid by the Wesleyan Holiness revival movement of the nineteenth century. Through a historico-theological survey, the author contends that Wesleyan teachings and practices such as the authority of the Bible, holiness, use of spiritual gifts, evangelism, social ministry, and others, are key to the survival of global Christianity now and in the years to come.
