Sensors are used to derive the state of an object or an element. Sensor is a device which is based on the physical property of a sensor must be changed by an external stimulus to cause that property either to produce an electrical signal. Sensors are ubiquitous. They are embedded in bodies, vehicles, airplanes, cellular telephones, radios, chemical plants, industrial plants and uncounted alternative applications. Sensors acquires information from the real world and gives the output as either electrical or optical signals This paper analyses the different types of sensors which are used in real time applications such as automation, controlling, testing and monitoring. A comparative study of the different sensors based on their performance parameters is done which enables the user to apply the appropriate sensor for a given application.

As we all know that the sensors are the most important part of the embedded system and the robotics world. By using different types of sensors we can minimize the logic circuits and also make the system more efficient to get output by taking less input. Therefore, here is detailed view of different types of sensors and their applications in the different fields.

This third edition of Sensors and Transducers has been thoroughly revised to take account of the ever-increasing role of these components and of improvements in design. New tables of properties and illustrations have also been added. The topic of switches and switching actions has also been added because so many types of sensor are intended ultimately to provide a switching action. Ian Sinclair because he didn't really understand it. The text should prove useful to anyone who encounters sensors and transducers, whether from the point of view of speci¢cation, design, servicing, or education. This decade has been characterized by a tremendous interest in sensors and sensor networks. The renewed interest was the outcome of the advances that wireless cellular networks have scored such as massive MIMO cooperative communications, the Internet of Things (IoT) where it is predicted that billions of devices would be connected to the internet to communicate in some fashion, and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technology which has facilitated the development of smart sensors. All these and more suggest that sensors will be at the front and center of most technologies in the future. This paper presents a review on sensors, their applications as well as their manufacturers whenever relevant. The work presented can be used to inform any further developments in the area of sensors as research gears up to meet the challenges of the emerging technologies.

A sensor is a device which is able to convert any objective quantity to be measured into a signal which is interpreted, displayed, stored or used to control some other data. The signal formed by the sensor is equal to the quantity to be measured. Sensors are used to calculate a particular characteristic of any object or device.[1] This paper provides the overview about What is sensors, different fields where sensors are used, how sensors are used in day to day life, its advantages and disadvantages and types of sensors. Paper also gives idea about how sensors plays an important role in cyber security.
