Now, we have a very real example of success redefined. Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology, who also worked with Sigmund Freud, said that “The least of things with a meaning is worth more in life than the greatest of things without it.” (Jung, C. G. (1933). Modern Man in Search of a Soul. New York: Harvest.) Being successful or talented doesn’t consist of any specific thing unless meaning can be found within it. Therefore, anything can be a measure of success in the proper context, even the smallest of acts. In a state of higher consciousness and awareness, which we are being called to enter and embody in the latter part of the 21st Century, success is redefined, especially if it is powered by the heart, mind and Spirit. This is a holistic and complementary view that takes into account prominent psychology and spirituality that underpins the foundation of our systemic knowledge of ‘the self.’

Citation: Banerjee I, Robinson J, Munoosingh B, Jain N, Amsadevi RS. Meaning of Success: perception of medical students, and faculty-A Qualitative Study from a medical school in Mauritius. Nepal J Epidemiol. 2020;10(3); 905-914. Abstract: Background: The objective of this study was to find what undergraduate medical students and teaching faculty perceive success to be. Methods: A descriptive phenomenological qualitative study was designed and conducted on faculty and medical students in Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Medical College, Mauritius. NVivo 12 (Windows) Plus software was implemented for data analysis and thematic analysis was performed. Results: The codes/nodes namely being: Satisfaction, Accomplishment, Actions, Motivations, Extrinsic Factors and Intrinsic Factors were identified in the transcribed data. Satisfaction was described as the positive emotions and notions intimately related as well as synonymously associated with success. Accomplishment as the attainment and fulfilment of any physical, mental, emotional, social, occupational, personal goal or desire by an individual. Actions was the arsenal of physical processes, acts of planning, goal setting or forethinking exercised by the individual. Motivations was the drive to attain the preset goal or notion be it positive or negative. This applies to factors that enable a subject to strive forwards. Extrinsic Factors were the external determinants and definition of success perceived by the subject. Intrinsic Factors were the subject's internal organic, comprehension and definition of success. The themes generated were: Products of Success, Mechanisms of Success and Concepts of success. Conclusion: A tangible demarcation is noticeable between the preconceived general impression of success and the vast multifactorial cohort of intrinsic and extrinsic factors coupled to the highly emotional aspects which were brought forth.

The purpose of this thesis is to reveal how an intimate relationship with God can bring internal and external success. The research will demonstrate that success from a relativistic society does not always produce overall success. Through a secular approach, success is defined differently by each human being and formed by his or her own perception of the subject. However, through a biblical worldview approach, one can achieve internal and external success brought about by a relationship with God. First, the research will recognize a few of the many man-made theories of success and analyze the different components that are within those theories. Then, it will explore a biblical approach to success defined by a faith and relationship with God. Through a comparison of a secular approach to success and a biblical approach to success, one can see the benefits and the deep fulfillment that arises when one lets faith determine the outcomes of one’s life. When believers commit their whole l...

Abstract- Success is a sweet seven letter word much relished by one and all in their lives. People have been striving hard to achieve success in their chosen fields since time immemorial. Whilst a few had tasted real success, majority had to content with much less. This has been the story so far and may remain so in future too considering the competition, resources and opportunities available. Be that the case, striving is needed to gain anything worthwhile. Should that become a chore, habit, passion or an obsession depends on the mindset of the individual concerned. Many suffering from achievement syndrome believe that more work is the key to success. Time alone will reveal the truth of their belief. By that time, unfortunately, youth and even life would have ebbed away. This paper is an attempt to take a peep into the dynamics of achieving sustainable success and ecstasy in one’s life – sooner than later.
