Abstract

Virginio Vespignani 1808-1882 was city architect of Rome. His architecture was inspired by Valadier, Poletti and by roman middle age and renaissance not only formaly but also materialy. He well gave form to Pio IX's will to renew and complete the work of his predecessors but also make Rome a modern capital. In religious buildings he looked back at the origin ok Christianity.
