Literary and epigraphic sources account for many actions of maintenance and restoration of monuments in the Sanctuary of Apollo in Delphi, in order to allow a regular cult practice and the organization of the Pythic contest every four years. Many different reasons led to the degradation of monuments: birds, earthquakes, sometimes the lack of care, use, but also damage due to the action of water. The question of maintenance and restoration of these monuments is closely related to the ways environmental constraints were considered in construction and to the management of water in the sanctuary by the Amphictyonic League. This paper presents a brief inventory of the archaeological remains, namely those dating from the great period of reconstruction in the sanctuary in the 4th century, which bear witness of different reparations, and will try to clarify their context. Nous revenons sur la restitution de quatre trésors de Delphes bien connus. La barrière de cippes qui ferme à l’est la terrasse orientale du trésor des Athéniens invite à s’interroger sur la fonction de cet enclos. De nouvelles données permettent de proposer des hypothèses de restitution du plan de la lesché des Cnidiens et de son élévation tenant compte des nécessités liées à la présence de peintures, mais aussi de réinterpréter le mur de soutènement au sud. Le réexamen du trésor des Thébains conduit à changer son orientation et à interpréter la fenêtre de la publication comme une ouverture destinée à la ventilation du prodomos. Le trésor des Cyrénéens est doté d’une nouvelle porte, plus conforme aux usages de l’architecture grecque classique. Les circonstances de sa consécration sont revues dans le cadre de la nouvelle datation imposée par sa nouvelle situation sur la fondation SD 302.

Comment restituer les pratiques religieuses et les croyances d'une époque révolue sur un site dépourvu de trace d'écriture ? À partir des témoignages archéologiques antérieurs aux premiers indices liés au culte d'Apollon à Delphes, ce livre propose une enquête des modalités cultuelles de la fin de l'Âge du Bronze au début de l'Âge du Fer. Si les représentations de deux cultes apparaissent comme antithétiques, l'un à dominante féminine à la fin de l'occupation mycénienne (xiie siècle avant J.-C.) et l'autre plutôt masculin au Géométrique (viiie siècle avant J.-C.), il s'agit bien de saisir les conditions de transition entre deux sociétés dont l'expression de la religiosité et les pratiques cultuelles diffèrent. This article presents the publication of a law at Delphi, which cannot predate 132-135 AD, according to a reference to the corrector Aemilius Iuncus. The law regulated the allocation of land on part of the city's territory after a previous allocation whose beneficiaries saw their rights protected. This second allocation, which benefited the damiourgoi and the bouleutes at the expense of the simple demotes, shows the existence in the Delphic civic body of a hierarchy which has parallels in the cities of island Greece and Asia Minor in the imperial period. This land concession was comparable to "emphyteusis", since the beneficiaries did not have outright possession, but hereditary possession in perpetuity of vacant properties, which would receive improvements that would revert to the city together with the funds in the event that there was no normal succession; this concession appears, however, to have been granted with exemption from payment. Possible parallels are examined with the allocations of Roman estates and with Imperial economic policies, in particular the policy attributed to Hadrian. It is nevertheless difficult to substantiate any direct influence or intervention by Rome in Delphic affairs.

Trying to define specific characters of an architecture according to the modern system of slicing time with centuries is probably illogical. Nevertheless, looking to the buildings erected during the third century a.C. in Delphi shows that this moment is a transition between late classical architecture represented by the new temple of Apollo and new types of monuments which became popular during the Hellenistic times. In particular, the twin columns monuments erected by Etolian families show technical specificities common to earlier constructions but usher a new typology of high pedestal. Origin of the contributors must also be taken in account to understand the changes which occur during this time of transition.
