After going through 3 decades of war, it was only in 1975 that the war-torn Vietnam was finally reunified as one country. The early years after that were difficult and faced social and political challenges to try different reforms to the country. It was in 1986 that the government implemented 'Doi Moi' reform programmes which included marketoriented reform measures to help revamp her economy. The programme was successful and after 1990, her economy reported on the average 8 percent GDP growth annually.

The external environment has deteriorated during the first half of 2019, and downside riskspredominate in the near-term. Global GDP growth is projected to decline to 2.6 percent in 2019 from 3 percent in 2018, reflecting broad-based weakness in advanced economies and major Emerging Market and Developing Economies. Reflecting slower growth and heightened policy uncertainty associated with protected trade tensions, global trade growth is protracted to weaken further from 4.1 percent in 2018 to 2.6 percent in 2019. Downside risks include a further escalation of trade disputes between the world's two largest trading nations, while a more pronounced downturn in global activity and increased volatility in financial flows. Amidst rising global headwinds, Vietnam's economic growth momentum has been slowing since the beginning of the year. Vietnam's real GDP growth has decelerated to a still robust 6.8 percent in the first quarter of 2019 from a vibrant 7.5 percent pace in the sa...

Since 2001, Lao PDR tourism sector ranked second in terms of foreign exchange earnings after the mining and quarrying sector. Over two million international tourists visited the country in 2010, generating US$313million tourism receipts (LNTA, 2010). The tourism sector is regarded as one of the fastest growing sector economies in the country. Despite its importance, there has been no in-depth analysis of tourism's contribution to the economy. This study investigates the economic impacts of tourism on the Lao PDR economy. Using a visitors' expenditure survey and input-output models, the tourism sector was disaggregated from rest of the economy. The economic multipliers and inter-industry linkages of the 14 economic sectors for 2003 and 2008 were analyzed using SimSIP SAM Software. Tourism stakeholders' perceptions of the country's tourism were also analyzed. The results revealed that tourism is the leading sector in the country impacting positively on the economy during 2003-2008. Tourism contributed 7.5 percent to the national GDP and one in every seven people depended on tourism related businesses as their major employment in 2008. The multiplier results showed tourism contributes significantly to the economy in terms of generating output, value added and employment. However, the income multiplier was insignificant indicating high imports and relatively low income from tourism. The results further indicated that the indirect and induced impacts grew faster than the direct impacts of the tourism sector indicating tourism's secondary impacts are potentially important to the economy. The tourism normal and ratio multipliers are among the top three economic sectors demonstrating tourism substantial contribution on the economy. The higher average backward and forward linkages of the tourism sector compared with other economic sectors during 2003-2008 imply the sector's greater dependency on the domestic economy. Inter-industry linkages analysis showed tourism is a key sector in creating demand and stimulating production within the sector as well as other sectors of the economy. Tourism stakeholders also perceived that tourism was a catalyst in expanding businesses and generated iii positive impacts such as increased income, output and employment at local and national levels. The stakeholders also underlined some negative impacts such as cultural change, unsafe migration, human trafficking and the degradation of natural and heritage sites in the country.

This paper proposes that the development of the tourism accommodation sector in Vietnam, since the inauguration of the open door policy within the reform programme of doi moi, can be divided into five periods. This periodization is based on a study and analysis of the evolving roles of accommodation-providers in Vietnam tourism and the shifting patterns of state-owned enterprises, foreign direct investment and private businesses/small and medium-sized enterprises in this sector. Each period, and each transition between consecutive periods, is investigated in terms of the dynamics of interrelations between public, private and foreign operators, and the interaction of the accommodation sector with other political, social and economic factors in Vietnam during this era of transition. The paper concludes by identifying factors and trends that best characterize the evolution of Vietnam's tourism accommodation sector over the last two decades.

Staying at the strategic place in the South East Asia, Vietnam is a high-populated, low middle-income developing country. Although it has recently attained some recognized achievements in social and economic development, and international integration, the country is facing big opportunities and challenges of improving its competitive ability and business environment. The Government's development strategy towards 2025 has considered the tourism industry as one of the most powerful competitive abilities of Vietnam. Being at the central of the South East Asia and the Asia-Pacific area, Vietnam got a long and beautiful coastal line from North to South, with many attractive, local specialities. Many nature beauty spots have been globally recognized by UNESCO not only for their unique attraction but also their historical and cultural value. Besides the natural and physical cultural heritage (Ha Long Bay, Sa Pa, Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, Cam Ranh Bay, Son Doong cave, Mekong Delta, the Complex of Hue monuments, Hoi An ancient town, etc), Vietnam is also proud of its intangible cultural heritage like: Nha Nhac – Vietnamese court music, Ca Tru singing, worship of Hung King, or the space of Gong culture in the Central Highland, etc. However, the tourism services in Vietnam are not high appreciated in compare with its neighbours. To attract tourists come from other international markets with high incomes and demand, Vietnamese tourism businesses and authorities need to understand the customer behaviour, purchasing intention and attitude, and other influencing factors so that the tourism marketer 2 will be able to highlight and enhance the Vietnamese tourism image in the international visitors' perception, especially in our priceless cultural heritage. Besides, once the local people realize the advantages from doing tourism, they will realize the necessity of retaining the traditional professionals, cultural customs and natural environment for their long-term benefits. It would be the basement for local government to plan the general strategy for sustainable development, especially for rural and mountainous areas. Thus, the papers are inclusive of 5 parts as below:
