Electricity has become one of the basic requirements for human life, being widely used for domestic, industrial and agricultural purposes. In our work, we propose a digital energy meter which measures the energy consumption and the energy measured is transmitted periodically to the remote server or user or electricity board so that energy consumption can be monitored from remote end. Additionally an important concept used here is the IoT (Internet of Things). It objective is to generate bill automatically by checking the electricity unit's consumption in a house and in a way to reduce the manual labor. The calculations are performed automatically and the bill is updated on the internet by using a network of Internet of Things Iot is an emerging system with unique identifiers and having the ability to transfer data over a network without human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. Here using IoT the meter readings are uploaded into our specific web page for remote monitoring.

As artificial intelligence spreads, this connectivity has created a completely different vision of the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT has led to the emergence of a virtual network between man and the physical world of various things, thus drastically changing the way various businesses operate. In this context, the paper below describes a system of reading electricity meters based on the IoT and integrated circuits containing microcontrollers known commercially as Arduino. In this paper we also present a remote electricity billing system. This billing process is faster and more efficient, enabling customers to pay their bills earlier.
This paper is described to measure energy consumption in the house. This can help in reducing energy consumption in house as the owner is continuously being notified about the number of units that are consumed. Consumers are not satisfied with the services of power companies. Thus we are trying to present an idea towards the minimization of technical errors and to reduce human dependency at the same time. Theft of electricity increases the costs paid by customers and can have serious safety consequences. A proposed method provides the communication between the Electricity Board section and the consumer section using Internet of things (IOT) for transmitting the customer's electricity consumption and bill information that is calculated using ATmega328 microcontroller. The power and billing information is continuously transmitted by the use of Internet of Things and monitored by the Electricity Board section. WIFI performs the IOT operation where and through which the information is sent to the Web server. This data is then transmitted to the server unit at MSEB. The power consumption can be checked by the owner anywhere globally also. The snap of energy meter is sent on email. Also power theft can be detected if any tampering happens it will send the information to the server and alert SMS to the owner as well as it will cut the electricity automatically. The internet is connected to meter and it counts the pulses from it and displays it over the LCD display. The meter reading can be obtained at zero cost. This system not only reduces the labour cost but also increase meter reading accuracy and save hugs amount of time. In this way we can reduce human efforts needed to record the meter readings which are till now recorded by visiting every home individually.

Each time a person is required from the electricity board authority to collect the reading of energy meter and create a bill to the consumer. But this created a problem because the manual reading needs manpower, time consuming and may cause an error. This paper present an Internet of Things (IOT) based smart energy meter. Smart energy meter is introduced to overcome the above stated problem by providing the facilities of automatic reading of meter and automatic connection & disconnection can be made based on the electricity bill payment of consumer through IOT. The proposed system consists of both hardware and software for monitoring the various parameters like voltage, current, energy and cost. This system sends the details of energy consumed by the consumer (kWh) & total bill amount to the consumer via Short Message Service (SMS) at the end of each billing period (Bi-monthly). In addition to that, consumer receives the SMS from the system when the usage of total energy exceeds certain limits based on tariff and the details of tariff are displayed in the website. The above concept is shown in prototype model and also simulated in PROTEUS software.

For usage in residences, workplaces, factories, etc., we created an automated electrical energy meter billing system based on IoT (Internet of Things). Electricity has evolved into one of the fundamental needs for human existence, and it is used extensively for industrial, commercial, and agricultural reasons. Customers frequently express dissatisfaction with electrical network maintenance. They complain that their monthly bills contain statistical mistakes. Therefore, we offer suggestions to avoid technological errors while also attempting to lessen reliance on a human. Additionally, IoT is a key idea utilized in this work (Internet of Things). IoT is a new technology that can send data across a network without requiring human or computer intervention and has unique identifiers. Through the use of this technology, we have attempted to communicate the whole energy usage data via email from a remote site to the customer and electricity board. In addition, we have developed a unique website and uploaded the meter readings there. Customers can regulate the electricity in the proposed system, periodically knowing how much energy they are using. Through the Wi-Fi module, the created invoice can be seen on the web page. The customer may pay the invoice as scheduled. We can use power more effectively and lower the amount of money that the government loses. The implementation of IoT will help better management, conservation of energy and also in doing away with the unnecessary hassles over incorrect billing in electricity modules. Further the IoT will be able to incorporate transparently and seamlessly a number of different devices.
