The increasing prevalence of chronic illnesses necessitates an integrative approach to healthcare, merging modern medicine with traditional practices like Yoga. This paper discusses the physiological and psychological benefits of Yoga as a therapeutic method, emphasizing its role in promoting health and well-being. It highlights the research conducted by the Centre for Yoga Therapy, Education and Research (CYTER), showcasing evidence that supports the efficacy of Yoga in managing various medical conditions. By embracing both modern medical advancements and ancient wisdom, a more holistic healthcare approach can be achieved.

The objective of this study is to assess the findings of selected articles regarding better health through therapeutic effects of yoga and to provide a comprehensive review of the benefits of regular yoga practice. As participation rates in mind-body fitness programs such as yoga continue to increase, it is important for health care professionals to be informed about the nature of yoga and the evidence of its many therapeutic effects. Thus, this manuscript provides information regarding the therapeutic effects of yoga as it has been studied in various populations concerning a multitude of different ailments and conditions. Therapeutic yoga is defined as the application of yoga postures and practice to the treatment of health conditions and involves instruction in yogic practices and teachings to prevent reduce or alleviate structural, physiological, emotional and spiritual pain, suffering or limitations. Results from this study show that yogic practices enhance muscular strength and body flexibility, promote and improve respiratory and cardiovascular function, promote recovery from and treatment of addiction, reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, improve sleep patterns, and enhance overall well-being and quality of life.
Yoga helps achieve balanced health by connecting the mind and body through a series of postures, breathing exercises and meditation. Regular practice results in an increase in flexibility and strength, an improvement in posture, and better mood and concentration. Today over 16 million Americans practice yoga on a regular basis. Over the last decade, several scientific studies have established therapeutic benefits of yoga practice. As a result, yoga has emerged as a potential integrative modality for the management of several common medical diseases. The United States National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) is presently supporting research on the benefits of yoga on diabetes risk factors, HIV, immune function, arthritis, menopausal symptoms, multiple sclerosis, posttraumatic stress disorder and smoking cessation. This research initiative by NCCAM is aimed at establishing evidence based data on the therapeutic benefits of yoga. It also provides further credibility to this centuries old practice. This brief review looks at some conditions where yoga may have already established evidence based beneficial effects.

Now a day alarming awareness was observed in health and natural remedies among people by yoga and pranayama which was originated in India thousands years ago. It has been established as an effective method for improving health in addition to prevention and management of diseases. With increasing scientific research in yoga, its therapeutic aspects are also being explored. Yoga is reported to reduce stress and anxiety, improves autonomic functions by triggering neuro-hormonal mechanisms by the suppression of sympathetic activity, and even, now-a-days, several reports suggested yoga is beneficial for physical health of cancer patients also. This article mainly focus on how yoga is helpful in maintain physical and mental health.

Yoga is focussed as an essential form of spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science bringing harmony between mind and body. It is an art and science of healthy living consisting largely of asanas. It is found to be one of the best exercises for physical and mental health. There is more need of supportive therapy for maintaining physical and mental health apart from current treatment by different forms of medicine. It is known to relax body, promote immunity and thereby prevent illness seeing as effective, acceptable and cost-effective for body and mind to relieve stress. An online search for studies done using medline terms like yoga, physical health & mental health were done. The studies have shown that it improves physical illness and promotes mental calmness by removal of anxiety, depression & stress thereby excel the treatment of diseases. These gives positive change such as well-being and happiness to the individual and increase the quality life years.

Yoga is a life changing tool for human beings. It is the subject of research from last few decades intended for healing purposes for modern epidemic illnesses i.e. hypertension, mental stress, obesity, coronary heart disease, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In such cases, specific research studies reported beneficial results of yoga. That means, yoga can be utilized as a nonpharmaceutical measure or counterpart to drug therapy for the treatment of these conditions/cases. In this article, research is reviewed on the effects of yoga as a tool for changing the life of human beings. In addition to this, the limbs, asana and pranayama are discussed in a proper way. Further, how that helps in solving the health problems are also discussed in this article.

The background of yoga has its origin in ancient Indian philosophy. In contemporary society we can observe many schools or types of yoga. Each having its own specific emphasis regarding body postures, breathing techniques, relaxation technics, and meditation practices. That nurture awareness and state of consciousness. The application of yoga as a therapeutic means, take advantage of the number of psychological and physiological benefits. Yoga exercises may increase man flexibility, strength, coordination while the breading and meditation practices may silent the mind, hence evoke greater awareness and diminish anxiety, reduce distress, and thus enhance quality of life. Despite of growing body of clinical research on the therapeutic effects of yoga, there is still a lack of evidence regarding its clinical validity for number of symptoms and health conditions. In some research studies we can observe inconsistent evidence with some reporting positive effect of yoga interventions, but some are less conclusive. In our review we summarize the current evidence on the clinical effect of yoga intervention on various factors of physical and mental health.

This review article summarizes beneficial effects of yoga on different systems of body in maintaining of normal heath as well as in prevention and treatment of many non-communicable diseases. Current evidences of effects of yoga in many studies as well as the possible scientific mechanisms of these effects are explained in this article. Yoga is effective supportive adjunct with pharmacological treatment for therapy of some medical conditions. Yoga is beneficial in psychological stress related diseases, and diseases related to cardiovascular, respiratory, reproductive etc. It also has a proven role in immune system, cancer and even at genetic level but extensive research is required for firmly establishment of such benefits. Possible scientific mechanisms of health benefits of yoga are by increased vagal activity and decrease sympathetic activity. It helps in normalisation of hypothalamo-pitutary-adrenal axis as well as the baroreflex sensitivity. Alteration of gene expression and level of inflammatory mediators are also noted in many studies. Yoga is relatively safe, cost-effective, and easy to be practice as a part of self-care behavioural treatment. In conclusion, everybody should practice yoga in day to day life for maintenance of better health and prevention of diseases as well as adjunct to medicines for treatment of some diseases under appropriate supervision.
