The Secretary plays a very important role in the efficiency of an organization. The effectiveness of these functions depends largely on the availability, the needed competencies and skills acquired by the secretary in the Modern Office Practice. This study examines the effects of modern office technology on the performance of office secretaries in the Upper West Region of Ghana. To achieve these objectives, both descriptive and non parametric analysis were employed in the study. The non parametric technique used was correlation analysis. The descriptive tools used were tables, means and standard deviations. Simple random sampling was used to collect primary data. Both questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data. The findings of the study revealed that knowledge on use of office equipment contributed positively to productivity. This is reinforced by the percentages, mean and standard deviations. It was also established that office gadgets availability had no relationship with its knowledge. The percentages, means and standard deviations also reinforce this claim. Introduction Several changes have taken place in private and public offices as regard the roles and functions of the secretary. The type of machines and gadgets that were used to produce, duplicate and store information has undergone a great transformation to cope with the fast growing world of technology. The success of any organization relies much on the secretary whose role though supportive is critical to the achievement of organizational goals and objectives. In today's organizations one of the things that make organizations unique is the use of modern technological gadgets. Both internal and external forces such as market competition, consumer behaviour, technology and quality management are the drivers of organizational change In today's business world, every office requires facts and accurate information for quick decision making (Akpomi and Ordu, 2009). In Modern Office Technology the role of the secretary is crucial in the life or progress of an organization hence, needs some technological and human backing from the work place. The effective performance of the Professional Secretary depends upon the office equipment, knowledge and skills, of Professional Secretary. The skill level and functioning of the traditional secretary involve greater physical and mental ability. The introduction of modern technologies and programmes has lessened the onerous tasks for the modern secretary. These range from production, reproduction, storage and retrieval among others. With this advancement of technology, the use of the computer and software programmes facilitates the work of the professional secretary. These include the use of machines such as printer, fax, pen drive, cell phones, photo copier, telex and internet. These requisite knowledge and skills make the position of the secretary rather challenging. With the improvement in technology and recent development in office, it is envisaged that the work of the secretary will be easier. However, these new developments brought by technological challenges require even more knowledge and skills beyond being a professional secretary. For the secretary to be abreast with the changing times, face the challenges and overcome the old ways of doing things she or he needs training requirements in recent times to help meet organizational objectives. Information technology have affected many professions in recent times. The roles of secretarial professionals have been turned around by technology. It has provided the tools that shift the role of secretaries from that of information recorders to business strategists (Adedoyin, 2010; Appah and Emeh, 2011 and Jaiyeola, 2007). Several other authors are of the view that the secretary has to be well equipped to meet the present challenges of a modern office. There are conclusions by experts in the secretarial profession that there need to be changes that will reshape the office (Boladele, 2002; Onifade, 2009; Igbinedion, 2010). No matter how skillful and competent secretaries are the effectiveness of their functions largely depend on the availability of office technology. The study was carried out to examine modern office technology/equipment and its impact on the secretary's performance in some selected organizations. It was specifically to find out the availability of modern office technology/equipment, the secretary's knowledge and the usage of the technological equipment and its contributions to productivity and the secretary's performance. Simple random technique was used to draw a sample of 60 respondents for the study. Questionnaires and interview were used for collecting data. The questionnaire was made up of open-ended and closed ended questions. For the close ended, the researcher used category and rating questions using the Likert-style rating scale. The researcher used Statistical Package for Social Sciences (version 21) to analyze the empirical data. A narrative approach and frequency tables and percentages were used to arrange and present the data. The study revealed that organizations had modern equipment which aided the performance of the secretary's tasks; the secretary's operational knowledge enhances the usage of the modern equipment which goes to improve their productivity and performance. It was recommended that for organizations to survive and to increase productivity, they should provide their secretaries with adequate modern technology/equipment and training in order to enhance their skills and competencies and fit them into the current trend of technological advancement.
Harbours Authority, Takoradi. The descriptive survey method was used for this study. A total sample of 100 professional secretaries was used in this study. Questionnaires involving both open and closed ended questions were used to collect data. This study showed that there are computers, photocopiers and telephones in every office of the professional secretaries in the habour, however, not all the offices have electric typewriters, scanning machines, shredding machines, fax machines and duplicating machines. The result of the study also showed that all the secretaries accepted that the introduction of Information and Communication Technology in their offices has ensured increased in efficiency in their performance and has also made it possible for them to implement major changes as well as making corrections easily. As a result, it has and also ensured accuracy and uniformity in their performance. The secretaries strongly agreed that, the introduction of Information and Communication Technology has positively improved their performance level in their offices and this has contributed positively in the office. business today. Instant messaging, the Internet, internal and external telephone systems especially mobile devices and Intranets are now integral to the workings of office life. These advances in Information and Communication Technology have shaped the development of the modern office. Most business offices of today have turned their desks into "workstations," with desktop computers or laptops connected to a network of other PCs in the same office and even beyond.
The topic of this study is Application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) On Office Managers’ Performance (A Case Study of University of Ibadan). The instrument used in gathering data for this study is questionnaire. The scope of the study covered ten units in the University of Ibadan. The sample size used by the researcher was 50; the data gathered were analyzed using Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and table presentations. The research findings reveal that information and communication technology motivates the job performance of office manager’s and makes work easier and faster. Again, that lack of maintenance will reduce the effectiveness of these machines and bring slowdown in processing. From the summary of the findings, the researcher therefore concludes that information and communication technology should be provided to office manager’s so as to attain their job performance. The researcher recommends that the role of office technology in the development of office manager profession should be encouraged and office managers should have the required skills needed in operating this equipment.
The aim of the study is to investigate on the impact of Information and Communication Technology on secretaries at Cape Coast Polytechnic. The objectives are to determine the types of Information and Communication Technology equipment used at Cape Coast Polytechnic and to establish how the secretary's performance and productivity level has been enhanced by using Information and Communication Technology in the office. The descriptive survey method was used for this study. A simple random sampling technique was used to select a total of 100 out of 120 professional secretaries for the study. Questionnaires involving both open and closed ended questions were used to collect data. The data obtained from the field were analyzed and the responses were presented using descriptive statistics in the form of tables and mean to give clear picture of the survey. The result indicated that a greater number of respondents strongly agreed that Information and Communication Technology equipment helps in saving time, as compared with the old ways of doing things before the modern office equipment were introduced. It had the highest mean of 4.62. Many of the respondents strongly agreed that, the introduction of Information and Communication Technology has improves positively their performance level in their offices, recording a mean of 4.43 and this also affected productivity level in the organization. While ICT is productive on its own, it is more productive in firms that combine high levels of ICT with high levels of organizational changes in the areas of production and efficiency practices.

This work seeks to investigate the effect of digital technology on office secretary performance: theoretical approach. Digital technologies are new innovations in offices that enable the discharge of office functions by the secretary more rapidly and efficiently. Modern Technologies are significant tool in almost all human endeavours that have affected every profession in the last twenty years. It increased the prospect of doing office work by secretaries and conducting business more efficiently and in a much globally competitive way. Digital technology resources such as software that produces printer-based products, e-mail facilities, telecommunication gadgets, internet facilities etc are available in government ministries and this have greatly enabled the secretaries to manage and process information effectively and has also contributed significantly to the growth of the organization. The workplace has transformed into a modern environment because of technology, and everything has been facile. Based on the findings of this study, it was concluded that advances in technology and availability of digital technology resources such as internet, e-mail, videoconferencing etc have made information and communication processes a lot easier in modern organizations. It is recommended amongst others that secretaries should always be ready and openminded to acquire additional training/skills development, bearing in mind that changes occur frequently in the line of their chosen career and they are not left behind in the use of ICT in this digital age.

Modern office activities have gone beyond typewriting and note taking. As a result, there is need for secretaries to possess various computer-based applications competences for effective work performance The study assessed the computer skills needed by secretaries in colleges of education in north west Nigeria for effective work performance. The study adopted the descriptive survey design. Six research questions were raised to guide the study and two null hypotheses was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The entire population of 252 supervisors of secretaries in colleges of education in North west Nigeria was used for the study. This article examines effects of new office technology on secretaries' attitudes in the UK and Malaysia. Despite research studies on the impact of this technology, there has been a lack of empirical evidence on secretaries working patterns, interactions and communication, and specifically how new office technology has changed working practices in the culture of offices.
Improved physical office environment is a widely acceptable and the best means of providing an enabling environment that best facilitates employees' performance and general productivity. Six dimensions of the physical office environment were used in this study like furniture, noise, temperature, lighting, colour and spatial arrangements. The major purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the physical office environment and employees' productivity. The study is a qualitative survey in nature.
