World Federation of Occupational Therapists Bulletin, 2017
In October 2016, we conducted survey for displaced women who are rescued from the insurgent and terrorist, Boko Haram in IDP camp, Durumi, Abuja. In the same October and December, we have also done survey research on women victims of sexual assault for Agape Center (Sexual Assault Referral Center), the very first shelter in Akwa Ibom state. Both results were astounding—we see clearly the horrible women’s situations in Nigeria. Their needs are great and they are completely neglected!
This short article has given a largely autobiographical account of how I came upon the vulnerable mission principles in the early 90s, how my own experience in Kenya has (to me) confirmed those principles, and how the AVM has to date attempted to promote them.
A fter a very successful conference in Westport the Board of the IAS is encouraged by the many words and messages of appreciation received from those who attended and participated. We learned much and were introduced to perspectives and viewpoints of considerable importance to the mission of all concerned, namely the deeper understanding of all those in suicidal crisis and the many important initiatives different communities and agencies have undertaken to address these.
