Hydatid disease of the spleen is uncommon in children and is usually diagnosed incidentally. A retrospective study of 152 children with hydatid disease over 20 years revealed that 15 patients had splenic involvement, with 14 undergoing splenectomy. The lack of specific symptoms often leads to late diagnosis, complicating treatment. While splenectomy is the standard approach for larger cysts and those with significant liver involvement, organ-preserving procedures may be preferable in select cases. Early diagnosis through imaging techniques can improve outcomes.
