The strong dualism between inner faith and the practice of good works prevents Luther from evaluating work as intrinsically sanctifying. Work is thus seen in a highly ascetic, but not strictly sanctified. In the vision of the sanctification of professional work in Josemaría Escrivá, on the other hand, work can be made intrinsically holy because it constitutes a human work capable of being accepted by God as an offering. Its definitive value derives from its insertion into the priesthood of Christ that offers itself to the Father. The conclusion is that in Josemaría Escrivá the unity of human praxis –unity between human work and divine grace– is the condition of possibility of the sanctification of work.
