In the era of 21st century, mass media is important part of everyone's life which includes e-mails, online marketing, education sites, etc. Media and computer facilitated new skills that enable the formation and discussion of ideas, problems, data, and views and in another way of presence via network and communities. This review covers all features of mass media with its positive as well as negative aspects. With the emphasis of media on areas such as education, community, children, adolescent, obesity, sexuality, and business, etc., therefore, this research review describes how mass media will comprehensively affect all aspects. Since 2000, mass media has blossomed to prospect and is still growing limitlessly sideways with media sharing, and several other entries that offered real-time updates were announced by the example of Twitter, Facebook, etc. It has become the vital part of everyone's life. Search strategy: Articles were extracted using MESH keywords, such as children, adolescents, human, electronic mail, mass media, marketing, and health education, etc., from Embase, PubMed, and Google Scholar search engine. For additional information, we also used literature to obtain information on mass media impact in several fields. Mass media use has grown up exponentially over the past era, and this growth is expected to continue. It has a drastic impact on lives of all age-groups. Mass media is an essential or significant force in this modern civilization which has an impact on several aspects of human life. Overall, mass media has both positive effects and negative effects, but overuse of mass media may lead to a tendency of antisocial behavior.
From Powerful Effects Model, Minimal Effects Theory, and down to the Active Audience Model, Mass Communication and Psychology Scholars and researchers have sought to examine the effects that mass media messages have on its audience. Nonetheless, there is a recognition of the changing tides where audiences have moved from the position of mere passive consumers of messages to active contributors, and having a say in what to be exposed to and if to accept the message or not.
In this era of technological advancement, media as technologies have dramatically affected the human behaviour and have easily drawn a connection between the virtual world and the real world. Digital technologies are not only the daily tools of communication, information and entertainment for people but have become omnipresent and an integral part of people"s lives. In today"s digital world, the media can give you ideas, it can inspire you to do certain things and drive you to initiate what you see. The media controls the society and is capable of changing human behaviour, living style and moral thoughts and consequences. Media reflects in two ways i.e. positive as well as negative; as media does not produces the real happening of a world, rather creates a new world. The main aim of this research is to study the impact of media on human behaviour. It also aims to create difference between the virtual and the real world. This study would be able to bring out whether trending mass media does influence the youth"s behaviour so as to decide whether to act in a manner parallel to the virtual world or see the practical-real aspect. And also aims to examine the effect of time period of accessing media on the human behaviour. The research design used is "Survey through Questionnaire" with an accidental sampling of 60 people between the age of 15-24 yrs (youth). The questionnaire includes questions pertaining to the subject"s behaviour, influence, preference and thoughts. Everyday incidents relating to recent media trends is visible which leads people to commit acts which have been influenced by popular media and how such behaviour can be disastrous to human life. The newspaper articles shows the changes in human behaviour according to media which is also be studied to lay a base of media"s psychological impact and further interpretation has been based according to the replies given to questionnaire as to what extent it can be influencing, harmful and how should media be utilised. The expectations from this research would be that the behavioural changes are brought by media in the youth and that these changes are quite significant which leads them to act accordingly. Media are considered as the catalyst of change and development, and expected to accelerate the process of social welfare and empowerment of all. The process of communication has created informed citizenry. Playing the role of gatekeeper, media has also contributed in people"s empowerment, diffusion of innovations and ideology of progress and modernity. This paper gives a brief definition of what media is and what are the effects of media on society. During the course of this literature various types of Impacts of media on the individual, his family and society are highlighted.
Negative Impacts of Mass Media on Social and Psychological life of Human Beings, 2023
Evidence gathered via this research clearly demonstrates that violence has been displayed through mass media, such as television, the internet, video games, mobile phones, and other computer networks, from the second half of the 20th century (1960). The likelihood of violent behavior in viewers' mentalities and social lives is increased by programs like war serials, pornographic flicks, and dramas that all depict such programs that are against the moral and ethical ideals of culture. As the violence in the real environment increases, they increase the risk of abuse. In the current review, the evidence of these studies has been critically evaluated, based on the social and psychological factors that have been developed. These elucidations show how the dangers of violence might have negative short-or long-term impacts. The level of impact of media violence is compared to a few other known social issues in order to assess how serious these risks are, how urgently they need to be addressed, and how to eradicate them. The fundamental function of the mass media in our society in the 20th and 21st centuries has been to impose certain beliefs on our culture and way of life, despite the fact that information and media are now seen as the fourth pillar of democracy. These days, it's easy to access and use violent programs, which have taken over our daily lives. They also experience mental and social problems as a result of the disruption of our social and psychological order system. Even the mainstream media has a big influence on the morals, attitudes, and behaviors of our young people.
