Quality and Reliability terms are often used in relation to each other in reference to product or service. Though, both the terms seems to have independent meaning, but are interdependent while using these terms in reference to product or service. So, we must consider both the terms carefully so as to provide an integrated and total view of all aspects which form Quality Consciousness, at all stages (conception, design, manufacturing, marketing etc.) in the life cycle of a product.

Purpose-To provide a case study of a medium size New Zealand electronic equipment maker striving to compete globally with implementation of an integrated new product development process. Design/methodology/approach-This is based on my work performed in this New Zealand company. Due to confidentiality, detailed information and the name of the company were to be omitted in this article. Findings-In the course of this work, it was found that New Zealand has great potential in electronics sector. However, as New Zealand is a latecomer as an electronic equipment maker, it needs to produce products for a certain niche market instead of competing with low cost electronic producing countries. Therefore, the ability to produce unique product quickly with required quality and reliability is essential for New Zealand electronic companies. Originality/value-This paper discussed how New Zealand being a country remote from the rest of the world is able to participate in producing electronic equipment. This paper discusses the innovativeness of the company in developing their own version of new product development process.
There has been a plethora of published research related to total quality management (TQM) in the last few decades. However, very few studies focused on cataloging critical factors of TQM. One of the objectives of this literature review was to investigate the state of TQM by examining and listing various TQM factors identified based on survey studies conducted in different countries and published in a variety of journals over the past decade. An examination of 76 survey studies that used an integrated approach to TQM showed that the TQM factors could be grouped under 25 categories. An analysis of the 347 survey based research articles published between 1989 and 2000 using these 25 factors as a framework revealed the most frequently covered TQM factors in the literature. Another goal of the paper was to analyse the objectives of these articles by year and type of journal they were published in to determine the trends in TQM survey based studies and recommend future direction for research. The analysis showed that the objectives of the 347 studies could be grouped under six categories.

The standards of any product, service or an organization can be characterized by the term " quality ". In the past, there was no clear definition established to define the term " quality ". From few decades, philosophers such as Feigenbaum, Deming, Crosby, Ishikawa, Juran, Taguchi and others have put their thought to define the term quality and also accomplished tothe quality management principles. The contributions of their philosophies have enlightened the engineers and managers to focus on theperformance. Every engineering concern like manufacturing, materials, design etc., are merged and linked with the citation of quality and directing their path to achieve a good quality product or a service. Quality management has extended its bounds and grown to new heights that it has become a separate area in every field and emerged as " total quality management " which is popularly abbreviated as TQM. To understand the movement of TQM, there is a need to oversee at the philosophies of quality leaders who configured the evolution of TQM. As a tribute, this paper is devoted towards a good understanding regarding philosophies and teachings of Quality Gurus and their approach towards quality management.
In the present era where there is a cut-throat competition at every stage of industrial activities, the aim of industrial unit is not to produce the commodities only but it should produce the goods to meet the requirements of the company’s customer to their maximum satisfaction. The industrial house should be aware at the least cost and to the maximum satisfaction of the customers. To satisfy customers is not an easy job. For this the production Manager is concerned with the way in which methodology is used. The new product development process consists by: Idea generation, screening, Business analysis, Development, Test marketing & commercialization. Key Word: Customers, Decision Making, introductory stage, Product Management decline stage,

Increasing global competition has led to the need for organisations to continually improve their quality performance. In particular, developing countries such as China are focused on catching up with more developed countries. This study examines the relationships between improvement in three factors (health and safety conditions, worker motivation and satisfaction, work/life balance policies) in increase in product quality and reliability in developed countries. Based on a questionnaire, the study shows that improvement in health and safety conditions have a significant direct impact on increase in product quality and reliability while improvement in work/life balance do not have the same effect.
