The following is a summary of the principal changes and improvements incorporated in this issue: a. Addition of Composite Material Drawing definition. b. Changing of the signature to a printed name in Title blocks. c. New example of the Metric Drawings format and tolerance presentation. d. Improved placement of views on Types of Drawings samples to prevent unnecessary rework of drawings at a later date. e. New Engineering Order (EO) forms added; old EO forms will be phased out. f. Additional notes on various topics added to Note Examples section. g. Deletion of microfilming requirements for drawing format. h. Flow chart for flight projects redefined. iv v PREFACE The GSFC Engineering Drawing Standards Manual is the official source for the requirements and interpretations to be used in the development and presentation of engineering drawings and related documentation for the GSFC. The Mechanical Engineering Branch, Mechanical Systems Division, has been delegated the responsibility for interpretation, periodic updates, and distribution of the GSFC Engineering Drawing Standards Manual. All Engineering Directorate design organizations and their contractors shall adhere to the requirements of this manual when preparing GSFC engineering documentation for flight hardware and ground support systems. Comments or inquiries concerning this manual should be directed to the Mechanical Engineering Branch, Code 722.

Engineering Drawing is one of the basic courses to study for all engineering disciplines. The primary problem faced in learning and teaching of engineering drawing is the limited availability of text books that focus on the basic rules and specifications in relation to the drawing methods practiced in Bangladesh. This handbook is prepared with the primary aim to elaborate necessary basic rules and regulations of engineering drawing that is necessary for students of every engineering discipline. This book is for beginners to introduce them with different elements of engineering drawing. Several worked-out examples are provided along with every chapter and also every chapter includes some exercise and assignments to be practiced by the learners. The course Engineering Drawing is extremely important as it is the language of engineers, technicians, designers and sanitarians. This handbook is devoted to provide general aspects of engineering drawing like lettering, geometric constructions, dimensioning, scaling, orthographic and isometric projections and sectioning. The handbook is prepared taking aid from a number of textbooks and articles mentioned in bibliography section. Most of the figures are drawn using AutoCAD, a few of them are collected from Google image search and some are taken from the textbooks. For further reading, students are encouraged to refer books which are listed in the bibliography section.

This a series that will include handbooks, textbooks, and professional reference books on cutting-edge areas of engineering. Also included in this series will be singleauthored professional books on state-of-the-art techniques and methods in engineering. Its objective is to meet the needs of academic, industrial, and governmental engineers, as well as provide instructional material for teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
