Practical reporting is an integral part of experimental Physics. As important as this is, it still constitutes a challenge to majority of students studying Physics at all levels of education. This challenge often stem from difficulties associated with graphs plotting. This paper discusses the step by step means of applying a recently developed tool called Mafuyai Graphing Tool (MaGT) that assists in graph plotting.

The study presented investigates the effects of supportive graphical interventions on the graphing skills and conceptual understanding of students in physics. In this study, the first group of participants was presented with ready-made graphs during the instruction, the second group was instructed on the proper construction and extraction of graphs, while the third group was instructed to construct graphs independently. The groups were compared with respect to their scores in the graphing skills and achievement tests before and after the instructions. The group that received supportive intervention in construction and extraction of graphs attained the highest number of high-level graphs constructed and obtained the highest increase in the achievement test scores after the instruction. The results revealed that the use of the supportive graphical intervention in the construction and extraction of graphs improved the graphing skills and conceptual understanding of students, especially for those who experienced difficulties in dealing graphs.

We describe a simple but useful computer program developed in order to improve the appearance of graphs where temporal or spatial descriptions are required. Palette mapped graphs are elaborated under C language using winbgim.h graph library; its objective is to emulate the graphics.h graph library. This library is part of the commercial compiler Borland C++ and facilitates the mouse functions. With the above mentioned library is possible to create graphs applications with GNU compilers such as the environment DevC++ in the same way that these graphs are created in the commercial Borland C++. The palette knife was designed using the RGB description; it makes reference to the color composition in terms of the intensity of primary colors. With this simple software tool we have the feasibility to obtain vivid and less stepped color graphs. We are including three physical simulations as an example of its use: the heat transfer of a metallic rod, the magnetic field produced by the Helmholtz coil and the rainbow phenomenon. The preparation of didactic material by the teacher with the student's participation in the development of tools like the one here presented can help to maintain the interest of the students on the physics courses inside and outside the classroom and also represents the opportunity of increasing the student computer skills.

Graphing is an important skill/knowledge required by almost every scientist, engineer and other professionals that require analysis of data to make sense of phenomena, relationships, etc. This important knowledge is learned right from secondary school through to advanced level of education and it is developed through the study of functions in mathematics and laboratory exercises in sciences, etc. At the secondary school level, learning to graph by hand is the most preferred and common practice in most countries in the African continent and other parts of the world. However, studies have shown that graphing by hand present numerous difficulties to science students due to its high “procedural load”. To reduce the procedural load, an algorithm called UJ-MaGT was developed and tested for effectiveness. Excellent result in time management, simplification and pedagogical change in graph plotting process was achieved with the help of UJMaGT. Currently, the algorithm has been incorporated into a scientific calculator.

Two methods of data analysis are compared: spreadsheet software and a statistics software suite. Their use is compared analyzing data collected in three selected experiments taken from an introductory physics laboratory, which include a linear dependence, a non-linear dependence, and a histogram. The merits of each method are compared.
In the present study, the purpose is to investigate the effects of physics laboratory applications on science pre-service teachers' graph drawing skills. The study was carried out with the participation of 47 first-year science pre-service teachers in 2011-2012 academic year. In the study, graph drawing and analysis test was employed as pre-test and post-test to determine the graph drawing and analysis skills of the students and their opinions about graph drawing and analysis. Following pre-tests, the students conducted laboratory applications for 12 weeks and after each application, graph drawing and reading activities were performed. In the analysis of the data of the study, qualitative and quantitative analysis methods were employed. The findings obtained as a result of qualitative analysis revealed a significant difference in the graph drawing skills of the students, there is no significant difference found among their opinions about graph drawing and analysis. The findings obtained as a result of quantitative analysis helped us to determine the problems encountered by the students in drawing and interpreting graphs.

Physics concept understanding is the importance of the physics laboratory among freshmen in the undergraduate program. These include the ability to interpret the meaning of the graph to make an appropriate conclusion. This particular study analyses the graphical representation among freshmen in an undergraduate physics laboratory. This study uses empirical study with quantitative approach. The graphical representation covers 3 physics topics: velocity of sound, simple pendulum and spring system. The result of this study shows most of the freshmen (90% of the sample) make a graph based on the data from physics laboratory. It means the transferring process of raw data which illustrated in the table to physics graph can be categorised. Most of the Freshmen use the proportional principle of the variable in graph analysis. However, Freshmen can't make the graph in an appropriate variable to gain more information and can't analyse the graph to obtain the useful information from the slope.

This report summarizes the work of a two-year project which focused primarily on the problems that students have with algebra in general, and graphs in particular. The first of two major sections in the document deals with the use of computer software to assist in the teaching of graphing. It concludes that thoughtful design and use of graphing software presents new opportunities for teaching about graphing. The next section of the report centers on the development of research instruments that are intended to study scale in the context of graphs of function. It includes a set of problem-based teaching materials that were used as research tools. The appendices contain descriptions of probes designed to see if students can interpret and create graphs of real-world phenomena, along with instruments dealing with mapping, scale, and computer explorations. In many fields of science and engineering, we often encounter the problem of solving N linear equations of type x + y and trigonometric equations. All technological, biological and social networks can be represented as graphs. Therefore, graphs are used in the research of new algorithms and protocols based on simulation in various fields of science. We aim to create a python-based graph generator that will draw any type of equation i.e., linear, algebraic, trigonometric and logarithmic on the graph. More importantly, the application is designed to draw multiple graphs on the same canvas and then analyse the results. We have included one more module where user can upload a CSV file consisting of raw and get a desired pie chart, line graph as well as bar graph. Our system mainly focuses on generating a output for a later analysis by downloading the graphs they have plotted.
In recent years, there has been renewed call and effort by Nigerian government to encourage the enrollment of pupils into science, technology, engineering and mathematics; (STEM) subjects. Graph construction is a veritable and indispensable skill required by anyone that engages in a STEM subject. Yet, data from the West African senior school certificate exams (WASSCE)physics practicalchief examiner's annual report has revealed serious deficiency in graph construction by secondary school leavers. In an attempt to solve this problem, an app called UJ-Math Graphing Tool (UJ-MaGT) was developed with the aim of incorporating its algorithm in a scientific calculator. The technology was evaluated among 903 senior secondary school students within Jos. Pre-test and post-test were conducted and achievement scores were obtained by grading the test scripts in accordance with West African Examination Council's (WAEC) marking scheme. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was carried out using SPSS software. Results show that there was no statistical difference (P>0.05) amongst the groups before the intervention, the null hypothesis "There is no significant difference in achievement score and gap before intervention of UJ-Math Graphing Tool (UJ-MaGT) in graph plotting" was retained. Furthermore, the null hypothesis "There is no significant difference in achievement score and gap after intervention of UJ-Math Graphing Tool (UJ-MaGT) in graph plotting" was rejected because there exist a statistical significant difference (P<0.05) amongst the groups after the intervention. It is therefore concluded that the technological intervention has significant impact on the performance of the students in graph construction.
