AI-generated Abstract
This chapter provides an exploratory study of Brazilian think tanks (TTs), highlighting their emergence, challenges, and differentiation from North American counterparts. Through a literature review, institutional website analyses, and interviews with experts, it questions the legal framing of TTs in Brazil and their operational dynamics. The research indicates a growing interest in TTs, despite their niche status in Brazil, and sets the foundation for further understanding of their role in public policy.

In Brazil, the study of think tanks is still at its beginning, even if this is far from being a new object of research worldwide, mainly in the United States. No matter if it relates to the nature of this kind of institution 'per se', or to the way think tanks were received in Brazil, the truth is that there are just a few relevant works about this theme. The aim of this paper is to contribute to fill this gap in, mapping the most visible Brazilian think tanks, and also trying to reach a definition more adequate to Brazilian political culture reality. Therefore, I could argue that the growth of this South American country in international scene, as well as of its responsibilities, and the incipient knowledge about these institutes and its power of agency are reasons strong enough to justify this paper. The author was also inspired by the assumption that think tanks can play a pivotal role in Brazilian policy making. This means I consider them as a possible meaningful category of political institutions. To address this issue, I intend to interview key people, among which prestigious scholars in Political Science and International Relations fields, diplomats, and directors of some already recognized Brazilian think tanks. As a result of this work, we expect to help to broaden the understanding of these institutes in Brazilian political and Academic mainstream.

Think Tanks and Public Policies in Latin America. Edited by Adolfo Garcé and Gerardo Uña, 2010

Think tanks exist to help society move forward by providing evidencebased recommendations in order to enhance public and private decisions. Such institutions help policymakers design, implement, and oversee solutions to problems and understand the issues affecting social-economic wellness. Also, they propose questions and methodologies to address society's most significant challenges. Helping develop society more sustainably is their ultimate goal. So, in order to accomplish that, think tanks need to engage different stakeholders in building these solutions-they cannot achieve their goals on society's sidelines. In the next few years, think tanks will have to address many challenges to survive and thrive in their role of policy aide de camp to society. This C. I. S. Leal (B) • M.

The purpose of this article is to analyze teaching and research on foreign policy in Brazil in the last two decades. The first section discusses how the main narratives about the evolution of International Relations in Brazil, considered as an area of knowledge, depict the place that has been designed, in the same area, to the study of foreign policy. The second section is devoted to an assessment of the status of foreign policy in IR teaching in the country, both at undergraduate and scricto sensu graduate programs. There is also a mapping and characterization of theses and dissertations which had foreign policy as object. The third section assesses the space given to studies on foreign policy in three academic forums nationwide, namely: the meetings of ABRI (Brazilian Association of International Relations), the ABCP (Brazilian Association of Political Science) and ANPOCS (National Association of Graduate Programs and Research in Social Sciences). In the fourth section there is a ...

Culture is a theme which, within the field of International Relations, has traditionally held a peripheral position but has received growing interest since the Cultural Turn. Nonetheless, its multifaceted nature and the difficulty to isolate cultural factors from other elements make it a concept which is difficult to define and to operationalize.
By coincidence, 2016 was the fiftieth anniversar y of both the creation of UFMG's Department of Political Science and the launch of the journal Dados, which would become the main channel for disseminating a portion of the most important social science research conducted in the country. The two events prompted a series of commemorations and reviews, the most important being publication of the book A ciência política no Brasil (1960-2015) (Avritzer, Milani & Braga, 2016), edited by the Brazilian Association of Political Science (ABCP), in which diverse authors analyse different aspects of the discipline's evolution in Brazil. 2
