We report the first observation of \( \chi_{c2} \) production in B meson decays with a branching fraction of \( (1.80^{+0.28}_{-0.23}) \times 10^{-3} \). The analysis is based on a dataset containing \( 31.9 \times 10^{6} \) BB events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e⁺e⁻ collider. In addition, we provide results for the branching fractions and momentum spectra of both \( \chi_{c1} \) and \( \chi_{c2} \) production, emphasizing the significance of this observation in testing theoretical models of B meson decays.

Using a sample of 9.7 × 10 6 BB meson pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we study B decays to the χ c1 and χ c2 charmonia states, which are reconstructed via their radiative decays to J/ψ. We first measure the branching fraction for inclusive χ c1 production in B decays to be B(B → χ c1 X) = (4.14 ± 0.31 ± 0.40) × 10 −3 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second one is systematic. We derive the branching fractions for direct χ c1 and χ c2 production in B decays by subtracting the known contribution of the decay chain B → ψ(2S)X with ψ(2S) → χ c1,2 γ. We obtain B[B → χ c1 (direct)X] = (3.83 ± 0.31 ± 0.40) × 10 −3 . No statistically significant signal for χ c2 production is observed in either case. Using the Feldman-Cousins approach, we determine the 95% confidence intervals to be [0.2, 2.0] × 10 −3 for B(B → χ c2 X), [0.0, 1.7] × 10 −3 for B[B → χ c2 (direct)X], and [0.00, 0.44] for the ratio Γ[B → χ c2 (direct)X]/Γ[B → χ c1 (direct)X]. We also measure the branching ratio Γ[B → χ c2 (direct)X s ]/Γ[B → χ c1 (direct)X s ] for different X s configurations by reconstructing B decays into exclusive final states with J/ψ, γ, a kaon, and up to four pions. For all the X s configurations we observe a strong χ c1 signal yet no statistically significant χ c2 signal. We discuss how our results compare with theoretical predictions in different models of charmonium production.

We search for decays of the type B 0 (s) → h + h ′− (where h, h ′ = K or π) in 180 pb −1 ofpp collisions collected at the Tevatron by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab. We report the first observation of the new mode B 0 s → K + K − with a yield of 236 ± 32 events, corresponding to (fs/f d ) × B(B 0 s → K + K − )/B(B 0 → K + π − ) = 0.46 ± 0.08(stat.) ± 0.07(syst.), where fs/f d is the ratio of production fractions of B 0 s and B 0 . We find results in agreement with world averages for the B 0 modes, and set the following new limits at 90% CL: B(B 0 s → K − π + ) < 5.6 × 10 −6 and B(B 0 s → π + π − ) < 1.7 × 10 −6 .

Study of B → X u ℓν decays in BB events tagged by a fully reconstructed B-meson decay and determination of |V ub | We report measurements of partial branching fractions for inclusive charmless semileptonic B decays B → Xuℓν, and the determination of the CKM matrix element |V ub |. The analysis is based on a sample of 467 million Υ (4S) → BB decays recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e + e − storage rings. We select events in which the decay of one of the B mesons is fully reconstructed and an electron or a muon signals the semileptonic decay of the other B meson. We measure partial branching fractions ∆B in several restricted regions of phase space and determine the CKM element |V ub | based on four different QCD predictions. For decays with a charged lepton momentum p * ℓ > 1.0 GeV in the B meson rest frame, we obtain ∆B = (1.80±0.13stat. ±0.15sys. ±0.02 theo. )×10 −3 from a maximum likelihood fit to the two-dimensional MX -q 2 distribution. Here, MX refers to the invariant mass of the final state hadron X and q 2 is the invariant mass squared of the charged lepton and neutrino. From this measurement we extract |V ub | = (4.31 ± 0.25exp. ± 0.16 theo. ) × 10 −3 as the arithmetic average of four results obtained from four different QCD predictions of the partial rate. We separately determine partial branching fractions for B 0 and B − decays and derive a limit on the isospin breaking in B → Xuℓν decays.
