Importance of ICT in Education in digital age

This paper is a mere attempt to present a glimpse of meaning of ICT, its importance & its mandatory need for education, which is indispensable. ICT stands for INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY. These technologies include: computers, the Internet, Broadcasting technologies (radio and television), Telephony. One of the many challenges facing developing countries today is that of preparing their societies and governments for globalization and the information and communication revolution. Policy-makers, educationists, non-governmental organizations, academics, and ordinary citizens are increasingly concerned with the need to make their societies competitive in the emergent information economy. Globalization and innovations in technology have led to an increased use of ICTs in all sectors - and education is no exception. Uses of ICTs in education are widespread and are continually growing worldwide. It is generally believed that ICTs can empower teachers and learners, making significant contributions to learning and achievement. Of the teachers interviewed on the effectiveness of ICT in education majority of them felt that introduction and use of ICT adequately will be extremely effective in children's learning and achievement. However, current research on the impacts of ICTs on student achievement yields few conclusive statements, pros or con, about the use of ICTs in education. Studies have shown that even in the most advanced schools in industrialized countries, ICTs are generally not considered central to the teaching and learning process. However, there appears to be a mismatch between methods used to measure effects and the type of learning promoted. Standardized testing, for example, tends to measure the results of traditional teaching practices, rather than new knowledge and skills related to the use of ICTs. It is clear that more research needs to be conducted to understand the complex links between ICTs, learning, and achievement. Again, on the question of impact of audio visuals, research shows that surprisingly little documentation is available on the use and impact of video in education, barring one or two video projects like UNICEF's animation series, 'Meena', which has become a key weapon in the battle against gender and social inequity in South Asia. Many teachers are reluctant to use ICTs, especially computers and the internet. Some of the reasons for this reluctance include poor software design, skepticism about the effectiveness of computers in improving learning outcomes, lack of administrative support, increased time and effort needed to learn the technology and how to use it for teaching, and the fear of losing their authority in the classroom as it becomes more learner-centered. In terms of using internet and other ICT as a resource for lesson preparation, most of the teachers interviewed, admitted to never or rarely using it, while very few used the internet to gather information sporadically or regularly.

ICT has changed the teaching and learning process. Today Education has become student centered due to ICT. The present article is an attempt to study the significance of ICT in teaching and learning process and its applicability and acceptance in teaching and learning process.ICT has changed the traditional methods in teaching and learning process and introduced new methods which are effective and useful for students. The process of information and communication and transmission of information has become so fast that it has spread all over the world. This revolution has affected human lives and has brought a radical change in the field of education and therefore, education process has become more effective, meaningful and productive. Advances in digital technology have created many avenues of learning. It is keeping students and teachers updated and enhancing their capacity .Through this technology active learning, discussion, sharing of ideas, immediate feedback and easy access to digital content is taking place very rapidly. In this competitive world, future of education sector lies in knowledge of ICT. It has made information accessible / transmittable from anywhere and by / to all groups of people. Education has reached most parts of the world and therefore, ICT has become integral part of human life. This paper relates how ICT has been used in education and its impact on education sector.

Therefore, it is adoptable for every situation in the classroom environment to creating the motivation among the learners. The Role of ICT in Teaching and Learning, 2021
In this essay, I examine the considerable role of ICT in teaching and learning and the positives and negatives of using technology and modern tools in educational process. I will discuss many aspects in relation to ICT and its impact on how education is presented and how learners or students interact with such new tools in the classrooms or via the internet. I will also draw on some personal experiences related to online learning and the availability of these modern tools from real examples in this regard
E-learning, distance education, digital textbooks, virtual laboratories and other new words and concepts are getting in focus of researchers and educators worldwide. As time goes by new terms and ideas will join them and pioneers will embrace and explore them further. However, real benefit will be apparent when they leave the laboratories and experimental programs and spread throughout academic and educational community as a common practice. For a broad acceptance and deployment of ICT in educational process necessary technical infrastructure, legal framework, financial support and psycho-social climate need to be recognized, defined and established. In order to do that educational policy and decision makers should have clear understanding of the benefits and costs of ICT. The leverage of ICT in education can be broadly separated in three areas: administrative, technical and other supportive functions for education; automation, assistance and support of learning and teaching and completely new teaching and learning methods, techniques and tools. This paper aims at identifying objectives, leaders, drivers and requirements of the ICT implementation in all three areas.
