Sargasso is an art installation commissioned by the Luminato Festival that captures the dynamic relationship between organic and artificial environments. The installation features a layered canopy formed from acrylic and mylar, creating a forest-like atmosphere within the Santiago Calatrava's Allen Lambert Galleria. Utilizing machine intelligence, the piece simulates biological processes with kinetic elements and embedded sound, inviting public interaction and reflection on the coexistence of natural and synthetic systems.
Co-Corporeality of Humans, Machines, & Microbes

Seattle's weather forecast frequently includes rain, and the Coleman Ferry Dock's location at a low point in the city's topography means the site receives runoff from the entire downtown area and surrounding parts of the city. Water also traces the paths of human circulation through the site, which flows from downtown Seattle to the Puget Sound. Both rainwater and runoff are collected on site and filtered through the screens of each residential tower to provide clean water to the residents. The playful articulation of the ground plane provides retail space and protected access to the ferry terminals as well as a park-like setting for residents and visitors alike. This multiuse project aims to create a sense of community through a balance of housing, greenery, and retail space while speaking of Seattle's intimate connection between people and water.

Noise can become uncomfortable for us in many situations both indoors and outdoors. External noise consists of activities (airplanes flying overhead, traffic on the road, etc.) that are either loud enough to be considered uncomfortable when outdoors, or are of an elevated volume to the extent that they infiltrate buildings at levels considered uncomfortable. In the case of internal uncomfortable noise, this can either stem from noisy activities that occur inside the building (people speaking loudly, printers, etc.), or when an unexpected sound suddenly permeates an area that has a very low level of background noise. The most common manner by which to mitigate excess noise is through the use of certain materials, which either insulate against noise passing through the material, or absorb the noise wavelengths. In the case of the latter, vertical gardens present themselves as not only an aesthetic element in architecture, but also as a potential acoustic control tool in building desig...
