Attraverso una lettura analitica di alcune opere dello scrittore argentino, questo scritto rivela i suoi molteplici interessi filosofici. Un viaggio alla scoperta di un Borges mistico, maestro dei segreti della scrittura come nessun altro nel Novecento. Libri, labiriniti, figure retoriche vorticose e impossibili servono a decantare il mistero del cosmo, fino alla suprema visione dell'Aleph, la quale intrattiene stretti paralleli con l'ultimo canto della Divina Commedia dantesca, lettura privilegiata da Borges.

The article identifies the first stages of Borges reception in Italy on the basis of some translations and scattered critical interventions that have been neglected by previous criticism. Attention is devoted to the years between 1927 and 1937, a period when three different translators published Italian versions of four Borges's poems. These one attest the Italian focus on Borges' avant-garde poetry as an important representative of innovation in Argentine literature. They are at the same time the oldest translations of Borges' texts in Europe, all prior to the French translation made by Néstor Ibarra in 1939. The analysis of this material reveals some aspects that allow us to connect these texts to the same cultural context, in which are particularly important (personal and cultural) relationships within the Italian-Argentine community.

In a short story of Ficciones, Borges presents Pierre Menard, the author of a modern version of Don Quixote. A plagiarism or a deliberate paradoxical anachronism, that questions the whole history of literature through erroneous attributions. It is not an isolated case, as Borges uses the idea of plagiarism in another text: the Chronicles of Bustos Domecq, written with Bioy Casares, where the bold César Paladión seeks fame by publishing, at his expense, works manifestly written by others. Una delle asseverazioni più importanti dell’antropologia contemporanea, ovvero il riconoscimento delle differenti e molteplici identità che convivono e formano ogni persona, mi permette di intrecciare in questa breve riflessione due campi della pratica intellettuale apparentemente distinti, ma in realtà accomunati da una comune radice: la volontà di favorire la comprensione di ciò che è diverso, incomprensibile o sconosciuto.

The purpose of this study is to analyse cookbooks' history in the attempt to place La scienza in cucina e l' arte di mangiar bene by Pellegrino Artusi (1891) 1 in a precise literary space. Then, the language for special purposes will be examined such as it is in cookbooks and to which the translator must adapt his/her translation. What value has a retranslation of the same work in different historical periods? In the light of this, different English translations of Artusi's volume will be considered from the first published in 1945 to the latest in 2011, all addressed to a North-American audience 2. Both diachronic and synchronic study highlights how in the above-mentioned translations, or better said retranslations as it would be more appropriate to define them (although they are each other autonomous), some strategies prove to be essentially aimed at transferring the 'Italiannness' into the target language beyond the recipes. Moreover, Artusi's cookbook is not only a means to spread Italian cuisine, but also a pleasant reading gifted with narrative value: a text able to fascinate the reader thanks to the numerous anecdotes and personal opinions.
