AI-generated Abstract
The paper explores the historical tensions between logic and Islamic jurisprudence, detailing the perspectives of key scholars from the Islamic Golden Age to the present. It highlights the differing views on the role of logic as a tool for reasoning and understanding within Islamic law, focusing on figures like al-Ghazzālī and Ibn Taymiyyah, and the impact of Aristotelian logic on Islamic education. The narrative traces the evolution of logical study in madāris, also examining opposition from traditionalists and the subsequent decline in its scholarly pursuit in modern times.

Renowned for his profound scholarship, the philosophical theologian and mystic Abū Ḥāmid al-Ghazālī (d. 505/1111) has profoundly influenced Islamic thought and education for centuries. This article presents a novel approach to studying his body of works. It analyzes six of al-Ghazālī's key works on logic in chronological order, offering a fresh perspective on his views on reasoning. Additionally, the study explicitly focuses on al-Ghazālī's concept of "logic as a tool of learning," leading into an exploration of the relevance of his insights for contemporary humanistic education.
Logic: A brief overview Logic is the discipline of valid reasoning, inference and demonstration. While many cultures have employed systems of reasoning, and logical methods are evident in all human thought, logic descending from the Greek tradition, particularly Aristotelian logic, impacted more on and was further developed by Islamic logicians from the 8th till 14th centuries. "Mantiq " is the Arabic equivalent of "logic". It points to the practice of defending the tenets of Islam through rational argument.

Paper presented at the International "Muḥammad b. Yūsuf al-Sanūsī Between Islamic Studies and the Social Sciences" Symposium held in Rabat/ Morocco, 31th January - 1st February 2023
This paper examines al-Fārābī’s logical thought within its Arabico-Islamic historical background, and attempts at conceptualizing what this background contributes to his logic. After a brief exposition of al-Fārābī’s main problems and goals, I shall attempt at reformulating the formal structure of Arabic linguistics (AL) within ontological and formal characteristics where the Arabic logic is built upon. Having discussing the competence of al-Fārābī in the history of the AL, I will propose further three interrelated theses about al-Fārābī’s logic those are logico-linguistic conception, the project of logicization, and nuclear logic whereby I will attempt to redefine his logic. The final question that will arise is how Aristotle’s logic could be built upon the AL which has a contrary nature to logic. The present paper also contributes examining our traditional research habits in the Arabic studies.
Studia Humana
This paper tries to outline a history of development of informal logic in Semitic languages and especially in Arabic. It tries to explain how the first definite formulation of rules of this logic appeared at āl-Šāfi‘y’s Risāla, a work on ’uswl āl-fiqhor methodology of law. It attempts also to provide new theories and hypotheses about the translation movement in the Arabic and Islamic medieval world.
