ABSTRACT: In the Ecuadorian higher education scope, the academic tutoring arises many ways in accordance with levels of study, learning opportunities, use of resources, actors involved, methods, and contents. In this article, virtual tutoring is conceived as a process of guidance, training and integral strategy, developed by teachers in order to guide students in their learning process. (UNESCO, 2015) When mentoring develops through virtual learning environments, this refers to e-tutoring. This article provides a review about of what the information and communication technologies brings to academic tutoring, its objectives and strategies, and the monitoring supporting tutorials in virtual mode, in the specific case of the course of Applied Computing at the University of Las Americas in Quito, Ecuador. The experience on strategies and skills tutorials in The University of The Americas has allowed an assessment of traditional education, its accomplishments and goals. Also, it helps proposing new relevant formulas in virtual education, which allows finding solutions to problems related to academic and social environment that develops the paradigm of Virtual Learning Environments, such as innovation and contribution in the knowledge society era.
