Pier Gaetano Feletti e l'affare Mortara

Abstract

Pier Gaetano Feletti (1797-1881), a Dominican friar, was the last inquisitor in Bologna. In 1858 the pope Pius IX ordered him to abduct Edgardo Mortara, a jewish child who had been baptized before: so Feletti commanded the policemen to take Edgardo to Rome. Later, when Piedmont occupied Bologna, Feletti was imprisoned but the court absolved him because he executed a lawful order of the papal government. From: Dominikaner und Juden (ed. E.H.
