Although the title of this book is misleading, Terry Godlove offers valuable insights into Kant's approach to concept formation, and how this relates to conceptualizing religion.

Review of Godlove's book Kant and the Meaning of Religion in Kantian Review
Journal for the History of Modern Theology / Zeitschrift für Neuere Theologiegeschichte
A compilation of essays by 14 scholars who promote an "affirmative" reading of Kant's philosophy of religion. The article uploaded here is a prepublication draft of the editors' introduction. This article provides a summary and some replies to points offered in the Kantian Review Roundtable discussion of my recent book Kant and Religion. The main themes are as follows: Kant’s project in the Religion; religious thinking as symbolic; the rational interpretation of revelation and of religious symbols; Kant’s moral argument for religious faith; the ‘psychological’-moral argument; Kant’s thesis that human nature contains a radical propensity to evil; evil and human sociability; evil and freedom; divine forgiveness and the sinner’s self-acceptance; Kant’s Religion as a subject of philosophical controversy.

This book offers a complete and internally cohesive interpretation of Religion. In contrast to the interpretations that characterize Religion as a litany of “wobbles”, fumbling between traditional Christianity and Enlightenment values, or a text that reduces religion into morality, the interpretation here offered defends the rich philosophical theology contained in each of Religion’s four parts and shows how the doctrines of the “Pure Rational System of Religion” are eminently compatible with the essential principles of Transcendental Idealism. http://www.routledge.com/books/details/9780415507868/

After a period of neglect, the idealist and romantic philosophies that emerged in the wake of Kant’s revolutionary writings have once more become important foci of philosophical interest, especially in relation to the question of the role of religion in human life. By developing and reinterpreting basic Kantian ideas, an array of thinkers including Schelling, Hegel, Friedrich Schlegel, Hölderlin and Novalis transformed the conceptual framework within which the nature of religion could be considered. Furthermore, in doing so they significantly shaped the philosophical perspectives from within which later thinkers such as Feuerbach, Kierkegaard, Wagner and Nietzsche could re-pose the question of religion. This volume explores the spaces opened during this extended period of post-Kantian thinking for a reconsideration of the place of religion within the project of human self-fashioning.

Kant the Question of Theology (Cambridge University Press, 2017), 2017
God is a problematic idea in Kant's terms, but many scholars continue to be interested in Kantian theories of religion and the issues that they raise. In these new essays, scholars both within and outside Kant studies analyze Kant's writings and his claims about natural, philosophical, and revealed theology. Topics debated include arguments for the existence of God, natural theology, redemption, divine action, miracles, revelation, and life after death. The volume includes careful examination of key Kantian texts alongside discussion of their themes from both constructive and analytic perspectives. These contributions broaden the scope of the scholarship on Kant, exploring the value of doing theology in consonance or conversation with Kant. It builds bridges across divides that often separate the analytic from the continental and the philosophical from the theological. The resulting volume clarifies the significance and relevance of Kant's theology for current debates about the philosophy of God and religion.

Throughout history, the main and most important subject of metaphysics, namely, God and, consequently, religion, has been at the focus of attention of philosophers and thinkers. In the philosophy of Greece and the Middle Ages, philosophical thinking began from God and led to a discussion of nature and man. But this changed in the Enlightenment era, especially in Kant's philosophy. The distinction between Kant's thinking was that he began from mankind and then began to think of God as one of the concepts of human intellect. Indeed, from the eighteenth century onwards, with the critique of pure reason and practical reason in Kant's philosophy, the concept of God, and consequently religion and religiosity, became subject to fundamental change, and this fashioned the modern approach to the concept of God and its functions. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the concept of God and its place in religion based on Kant's reading. Because in the thought of Kant, the...
