Optic nerve decompression has been accomplished by a variety of procedures, including craniotomy, and transethmoidal, transantral, and sublabial transnasal approaches. Among these, the transethmoidal approach is the most popular method. Recently, endoscopic endonasal surgery has been widely applied. It has the advantages of lower morbidity and greater precision. In this paper, our experience of optic nerve decompression by the endoscopic endonasal approach in 4 cases of traumatic optic neuropathy will be reported.(J Otolaryngol Soc ROC 1997;32:437-444)
