The continuous growth of vehicular traffic has led to increase in traffic density and higher chances for road accidents of which some are fatal. In the road accidents some people succumb to injuries due to non availability of timely medical aid. There are various reasons for vehicle accidents like sudden mechanical break down or failure, over speeding, and drowsiness during driving etc. This paper is aimed at finding a solution to some of the above problems with an intention to avoid or at least minimize the accidents and arrange medical help at the earliest. Every year, millions of people around the world die from road accidents, excessive or unsuitable speed is one of the main factors responsible for accidents, and it is implicated in a third of deaths. The main objective of this paper is to follow the driver from the speed of the vehicle as well as to know his behavior and his physical state on the roads to reduce the risk of accidents. In this paper, we monitor the instantaneous speed of the vehicle using a control system that can be mounted in any vehicle equipped with the OBD-2 protocol (on-board diagnostics). A monitoring chain based on a PIC microcontroller will be mounted in the vehicle as well as other peripherals such as an SD memory card module, a GPS geographic positioning sensor, a shock sensor and a global system for mobile communications GSM module. Unauthorized speed and the location data of the vehicle will be recorded in the SD memory card with accurate date and clock. In the event of an accident, an emergency message containing the latest speed and position data will be sent through the GSM module to the nearby medical center and local police as well as to the operator or owner (in case of car rental).

Since the vehicle users are increasing day by day it has become necessary for the driver to get assistance on road on highway while travelling. For safety purpose the user should be aware of the road conditions. With advanced technology mobile phones are well equipped with three axis accelerometer and GPS system. Android operating system of smart phone having three axis accelerometer and the GPS tracking system that can be used to analyze the road conditions for driver’s awareness and maximize safety. In this paper the emphasis is to provide assistance to the driver while travelling. The data available can educate the driver as how safely and efficiently he can drive the vehicle. In addition to this a device similar to wireless black box can be used in a same vehicle to monitor if the accidents occur. Traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of fatalities in most of the countries. An important indicator of survival rates after an accident is the time between the accident and when emergency medical personnel are dispatched to the scene. More the number of vehicles, more is probability of accidents. The government has undertaken number of initiatives and many awareness program but accident rate remains high. This project is about making cars more intelligent and interactive which may notify or resist user under unacceptable conditions. This system provides critical information of real time situations to the nearest police station and hospital to bring the ambulance to the spot to rescue the passengers or owner himself. Driver fatigue resulting from sleep deprivation or sleep disorders is an important factor in the increasing number of accidents on today's roads. The main components of the system consist of number of sensors like optocoupler, alcohol, ultrasonic, MEMS, GSM and a software interface with GPS and Google Maps APIs for location. This embedded system requests for emergency services whenever the vehicle met with accident, and system avoids unnecessary emergency requests incase of safe condition of passengers at that situation.

The idea to save the life of vehicle as well as life of Driver is proposed in this paper. This safety system monitors major accident causing parameters of vehicles: seatbelt, high speed, alcohol consumption, accident location etc. Proposed system will monitor all these parameters with the help of sensors and send the data on Android application which is installed in mobile of one of the family members of Driver where someone can check the status as well as track the location of vehicle. If some mishap occurred or if driver found with no seat belt, drunk, or driving vehicle with high velocity then Driver's current status will be sent by text message. If Driver found drunk then the ignition system won't work to avoid any fatal cases.

Nowadays we are able to track vehicles using many applications which help in securing personal vehicles, public vehicles, feet units and others. Furthermore there is a rapid increase in the occurrence of the Road accident. This project is about a system which is developed to automatically detect an accident and alert the nearest hospitals and medical services about it. This system can also locate the place of the accident so that the medical services can be directed immediately towards it. The goal of this paper is to build up a Vehicle accidental monitoring system using MEMS, GPS and GSM Technology. The system comprises of accelerometer, MCU, GPS & GSM Module support in sending message. The accelerometer is used to detect fall and Threshold Algorithm are used to detect accident. Short Message will contain GPS [Latitude, Longitude] which helps in locating the vehicles.
As Road Accidents are increasing all over the world, it is very important to save people's lives. With the advancement in technology we can make use of various real time sensors and technology to save people's lives. This paper focuses on comparing various architectures which consists of various real time sensors like Eye blink sensor, Alcohol sensor, Speed sensor, load sensor, tilt and turning sensor and various technologies like GPS, GSM. After comparison paper suggests which architecture should be used in the vehicle based on certain attributes. For E.g. If the car always travels outside the city then this paper suggests the architecture which has Eye blink sensor, Speed Sensor GPS and GSM.

the largest cause of unnatural deaths in the world today (apart from diseases) is road accidents. With increase in population and thus in the number of vehicles, accidents are only going to increase. Most of these deaths are due to delay in medical attention to the injured. The major cause of this delay is lack of intimation or delayed intimation of the accident to emergency medical response authorities. This can be addressed by the system proposed. This system uses an accelerometer, GSM modem and a GPS device along with a microcontroller to report an accident. The system also incorporates a "panic switch" which when depressed will send a text message for help to stored numbers. This facility provides assistance in the case of some chronic medical condition like heart attack or robberies that are increasing on highways.

The purpose of the project is to provide technical approach for detecting and monitoring the fatigue level of the driver in order to provide early avoidance to accident .proposed system is to detect if driver has intoxicated thereby locking the ignition system of the vehicle. This system controls the direction of the vehicle when it exceeds the threshold distance thereby avoiding the accidents. It also sends information to the concern authority or owner if there is any accident by the use of GSM module. By observing we are able to conclude that there are three dominant causes of road accidentssleeping, Overtaking, Use of alcohols are related to driver. One of the major reason due to the drunken driving because it is not possible for every police man to check each and every car to detect whether the person is drunken or not. Through this Project our expectation is that the car should start when authorized persons send predefined message on the External SIM. Otherwise the car is locked. Smart vehicle sends current locations on the different predefined mobile numbers. In this situation owner calls on External SIM for the first time, then the car should stop & when the user calls second time, then the vehicle will start automatically. Also, When the car is in motion and suddenly Obstacle occurring in front of the vehicle, then the sensor should detect barrier, (may be small or big) car should break automatic. And try to search alternate path in case of an accident. For immediate help and send that message to an owner and care center. In that Short Message Service it is should send current place latitude and longitude, Time, Speed in knots, Date, obtained from Global Positioning, Therefore, using that latitude and longitude, we find location on earth and we may provide fast help in an emergency. The Car should also break if the car is on wrong driving track and automatically re-track car. The Micro Controller PIC18F26K22 interfaces with Infrared sensors and Ultrasonic sensor that continuously detect, track, and the vehicle is in motion. If an Infrared sensor output detects off road path, then Micro controller immediately slows down the vehicle speed and try to move the vehicle back on path depending on track sensor output. In this project Micro controller is programmed using embedded C language and built using MPLAP.
