The book written by Wojciech Sady is an interesting and inspiring attempt to reconstruct the mechanism of the revolution that took place in physics at the beginning of the 20th century. As part of the attempts to characterize the process of the emergence of special relativity theory and the old quantum theory, author also raises the issue of the role of genius and imagination in the process of searching for new scientifi c theories. The work is based on rich factual material, however, has several weaknesses and-as it seems-several places that would not require greater precision. This work aims to identify these points.

The aim of this paper is to define fantasy through juxtaposing, comparing and sorting existing definitions. Taking into consideration elements of fantasy, such as ambiguity and insecurity, a crack in everyday life and the anxiety of the indefinable, the most controversial issues in fantasy were discussed. In the end, a new pattern of relations between fantasy, fabulousness, sciencefiction, and magic was suggested. Wszyscy, którzy próbowali zdefiniować fantastykę, zdają sobie spra wę z trudności tego przedsięwzięcia. Pojęcie "fantastyka", nawet dzisiaj wydaje się nam nieokreślone i problematyczne. Według Joel Malrieu, ktokolwiek zajmuje się literaturą fantastyczną, napotyka na początku swej pra cy założenia mniej lub bardziej niejasne. Samo słowo "fantastyka", nic nam nie rozjaśniając, jest czymś w rodzaju auberge espagnole, każdy wkłada tam, co mu się podoba. Ta niejasność nie przeszkadza jednak w stwierdzeniu, że istnieje sfera pisania fantastycznego (écriture fantastique), a jedynym problemem jest jej zdefiniowanie1.

Artykuł omawia jedną z nowych metodologii w badaniach literaturoznawczych, ktorą jest humanistyka ekologiczna. Odwołując się do tekstow teoretycznych, autorka polemicznie analizuje ich głowne idee. W tym duchu komentuje interpretację dzieł literackich, prowadzonych zgodnie z metodologią proponowaną przez humanistykę ekologiczną, skupiając się na szkicu o powieści Antoniego Sygietyńskiego Na skałach Calvados (1884). Wskazuje na „zielone pisanie” jako na stałą praktykę tworcow dzieł literackich, stawiając tezę, że literaturze można przypisać rownież cechę prekursorstwa w dziedzinie ekologii.

From Nature to Culture… and Back? On the Book Biopolityka męskości The paper is a review of the co-authorship book entitled Biopolityka męskości [Biopolitics of Manhood]. The author notices that this scientific monograph locates the Polish masculinities studies on the new field of biopolitics, immunisation and tanatopolitics, giving a hope to elaborate an alternative methodology of studies on literature and culture of this range. The author appreciates researchers’ achievements and suggests a few contexts expanding their reflections. Both the prior conference and subjective publication, in author’s opinion, open the new chapter of the Polish men’s studies.

The purpose of the article is to present elements of fantasy in selected works of old literature. It focuses above all on presenting the amazing places shown in literary works created in the 16th and 17th centuries. The author also shows similarities between fantasy, fairy tale, and utopia. Science fiction was created on the basis of utopia or anti-utopia, which lost their cognitive functions and began to discuss the characters’ adventures in such a way as to primarily provide entertainment to readers. In addition, the author points out that in the Renaissance era, Western European literary works containing elements of fantasy were primarily utopian or fairy-tale in nature. Their main role, however, was not to fulfill the entertainment function. It was only in the 19th century that leisure literature was discovered, when the ability to read and access to the text spread.
