There is rarely a coherent attempt to synchronize contemporary management literature to a solid theoretical base-school of thought, despite the inability of conventional management approach to effectively address organizational needs in many industries. Historically management techniques evolved through a number of approaches and stabilize in conventional school for some time. However, the rapidly changing technology-driven marketplace meant even the sophisticated conventional design falls short of engendering corporate excellence in many markets. Consequently, Digital Equipment and PZ Nigeria records outright collapse and serious erosion of market share in spite of exceptional conventional management design. Hence, the paper traced the height and limitations of conventional management. In addition to historical perspective, a number of overlapping factors meant that technology management is inescapable to managers. These factors collectively underscore the pervasive nature of technology and the need for its formal management. The paper recommends neither theoretical novelty nor conventional wisdom should substitute situational analysis in the choice of relevant management approach.

It is widely recognized that global competitive strategies are increasingly becoming technology-driven in the context of extremely dynamic, high-velocity, and turbulent environments . Such a context of rapid technological change is obviously extremely risky. As a consequence, managers used to be advised by management of technology academics and practitioners to get a better understanding of the technologies they are implementing and developing and have a clear vision of the role of technology in their corporate strategy. The aim of this paper is to stress that, at the same time, they must also control the impact of technology on marketing, finance and human resources functions of the firm.

This paper develops our vision of Technological Management through the development of a tentative research agenda. Technology is not only considered as an asset or a capability, but also as an integral factor that has an impact on all management disciplines. Through the existing literature, business schools' research programs and the contribution of key academics we identify central topics for further research on the interface between technology and the following management disciplines: finance, accounting/control, human resource management/organisational behaviour, marketing, and operations management.

This paper is aimed at current and future managers in the field of technology management (TM), and those who train and educate them. After briefly describing TM as a management discipline, the potential challenges likely to rise in the field are introduced according to three processes given in the TM framework: innovation, operation and strategy. Then, a set of propositions are developed regarding the potential impact of those challenges on TM professionals. Concentrating on a long term perspective provides TM professionals with the opportunity to consider their existing knowledge and skill base so that they can prepare for the challenges they will face in the future. The paper ends with implications for professionals and educators.

Abstract: This paper discusess how management of technology can be made more critical and a new method of reasoning is incorporated into this dicsipline to stimulate more widely application. Management of technology is found as a discipline that practitioners or academics need to have in order to be able to manage and improve technology. It relies on two streams of reasoning called deduction and induction. These two reasoning methods tends to neglect the human need to make sense and therefore fails to stimulate critical thinking of how to extract meaning from complex reality surrounding technology. It is suggested that abduction is the missing link in managemet of technology which is capable to combine the predominant strands of induction and deduction. Based on abductive thinking, TechnoValue is developed as a methodology to gain understanding the general statements when and how new technology creates value to all related stakeholders. Future research is also presented in this paper. Keywords: management of technology, induction, deduction, abduction, information technology

The purpose of the study was to explain the relationship between technology and strategy. The explanation of this served to educate and guide management on the effect of technology on strategy and strategic management. Through this knowledge, the management team tasked with formulation of strategy was keener to keep in mind the latest technology and how it affected the final strategic plan both at the departmental level and at the organisational level. Good strategic plans at the departmental and organisational level considered all factors during their formulation and translated to departmental and organisational success. The research design for this study was a descriptive research design. Descriptive research describes the situations and seeks to establish whether a relationship exists between two variables, which in this case is technology vis-à-vis strategy. The target population of this study was the entire organisation of Kenya Power seeing that the strategy that was used in the research was that of a case study. The research used probability sampling and in particular complex random sampling technique. The data collection instrument that was used in the research was a structured questionnaire. The results and findings of this research was that technology has little effect on strategy in organisations or departments where technology is at the heart of the operations. However it influences the management of technology which in turn has a significant influence on strategy. Technology significantly affects the strategy of organisations or departments where it performs a support role. It makes the business processes more efficient with greater output but that does not mean that without technology the organisation or department cannot operate. Management of technology is very crucial in selecting the technology to put in place and evaluating whether the technology has had an impact. It greatly influences the strategy of departments where technology is at the core of operations. Therefore, technology can be seen to influence strategy both directly and indirectly through management of technology. It is therefore recommended that management pay close attention to technology and keep updated on the latest in order to harness the benefits of this tech for the success of the specific departments and organisation as a whole. vi TABLE OF CONTENTS
