The development of information technology is currently growing rapidly. The use of social media as an effective tool for political campaigns has been widely reported in several studies. The power of social media has fueled transparency and supported e-democracy around the world. Citizens have the freedom to choose the best candidate to represent them in parliament. This study aims to examine the role of social media as a campaign media for political parties (political parties). This study was a descriptive study with secondary data. The results of the study showed that there were several factors that affect the electability of general elections. They can also be influenced by the existence of social media accounts for each candidate or political party to attract sympathizers. The use of social media by political parties was carried out by almost all political parties in Indonesia, so that political parties with a low existence rate compared to elite political parties had a greater effort to demonstrate the capabilities of these political parties. Another advantage of the use of social media by political parties was that they were able to embrace more sympathizers from the younger generation, for example Gen Z and Millennials. This was expected to significantly increase public participation in political activities for all people and generations.

Artikel ini berisi mengenai kampanye yang dilakukan di dalam media sosial dan bagaimana seorang partai politik dan calon kandidatnya melakukan kampanye di media sosial. Kampanye politik pada dasarnya merupakan penyampaian pesan-pesan politik yang dilakukan oleh para kontestan politik. Tujuan artikel ini dibuat ialah untuk menjelaskan fenomena kampanye yang terjadi di zaman modern saat ini yaitu dengan melalui media sosial dan menggeser cara kampanye tradisional yang mulai menurun untuk dilakukan. Lalu kekuatan media sosial yang digunakan oleh partai politik untuk mempengaruhi pemikiran masyarakat serta membentuk sebuah opini publik yang positif. Media sosial memainkan peranan yang cukup penting dalam sebuah kampanye politik karena para partai politik dan calon kandidatnya dapat terus berinteraksi dengan masyarakat dengan model komunikasi dua arah untuk mendapatkan dukungan serta suara masyarakat.

This paper examines the political dynamics of Millennials and Generation Z (Gen Z). The demographic structure shows that they belong to a fairly large population. The presence of Millennials and Gen Z is accompanied by the development of information technology, so it is dubbed as Digital Native. Being active on various digital platforms and social media channels is a reflection of his life. Social learning is obtained through these channels,generating expression and criticism of political dynamics. Still apathetic and skeptical of the world of politics. His perception is part of public opinion that transmits to social media (as the embodiment of public space). Therefore, what is the formulation in this paper, first, what is the form of political participation in the era of increasing the number of Millennial and Gen Z votes? Second, how social media as a public space engagements its behavior and political preferences. The goal is to describe the phenomenon that occurs on social media and the political participation of Millennials and Gen Z. The results of the discussion first, examine the development of democracy through the Indonesian Democracy Index which has decreased from 2019 which has an impact on the problem of declining the quality of democracy in aspects of political rights and civil liberties. Second, the problem of social media and democratization is marked by the overflow of information that presupposes the growth of hoax practices that target Millennial and Gen Z users and have the potential to be exposed due to disinformation and hoaxes. On the one hand, there is no guarantee of protection and the creation of a sense of security from the government against the use of social media. Third, egalitarian participatory politics are the hope of Millennials and Gen Z, can determine or have an attitude towards politics and refuse to be part of a political power scenario or be used as a political commodity. Fourth, Millennials and Gen Z have political reasoning, but the forms of participation vary. In fact, some Millennials become election activists and try to reflect on their political experience and moderate supervisory participation, including taking the role of reducing the risk and potential of fraud and fifth, the political literacy ability of every citizen, especially Millennials and Gen Z, can build a healthy political culture and discourse in order to create a dignified political system.

Abstrak Artikel ini mengkaji peran media sosial dalam komunikasi politik dengan mengambil kasus Pilkada DKI 2017. The study found that social media facebook is an important means for the candidates' campaign. Via facebook, candidates could convey their vision and mission if lead Jakarta. Audiences, on the other hand, can leave direct feedback. The response can be positive in the form of support, but also can be negative. Negative responses raises ethical issues because of the negative responses are usually delivered with harsh words, loaded sara, and personal attacks candidate. Therefore, the need of ethical awareness that political communication through social media lasted more building.
Social media nowadays has been crutial part of human being life particularly for the genarations those are so called millenial. The massive use of social media is not merely functioned for the social purpose such as information sharing among them but also has been used for business and economic or even political purposes. The local election of the Jawa Barat province in the year of 2018 is a moment where the millineal generation functioned the social media such as facebook and whattsap for the political purposes. This article discusses the phenomenon of using internet-based social media as an instrument in political communication and campaigning in the local election of West Java Province in 2018 as well as discussing the effectiveness of the media contents in shaping the pattern of millennial generation political behavior. The research adopts is qualitative approach by taking the object of research on political communication, as well as culture and political behavior. The main informants from this study were beginner voters who also catogerisaed as the group of the millennial generation. This study found that social media contents in general became an important instrument in shaping the pattern of political behavior of the millennial generation. The roles of the media for instance are indicated that current life of the millennial generation that cannot be separated from such media, social media contents provides political knowledges about profiles of candidates in local election, social media content provided political education both related to the technical implementation of the election and also the vision and mission of the candidates and, millennial generation have their respective communities which they make as a forum for discussion about the social media contents. Abstraksi Media sosial sudah menjadi bagian penting dari kehidupan masyarakat khususnya generasi milineal. Penggunaannya yang begitu massif bukan saja dimanfaatkan untuk kebutuhan sosial melainkan juga untuk kepentingan ekonomi, bisnis sampai pada kepentingan politik. Pemilu adalah salah satu moment politik dimana media sosial khusunya facebook dan whatsapp untuk kepentingan politik. Artikel ini membahas tentang fenomena penggunaan media sosial berbasis internet sebagai instrumen dalam komunikasi politik dalam kontestasi pemilukada Jawa Barat tahun 2018 serta efektifitas konten media sosial tersebut dalam membentuk pola perilaku politik generasi milineal. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan mengambil lokasi pada Desa Kecamatan Kabupaten Ciamis. Informan utama dari penelitian ini adalah pemilih pemula yang juga masih tergolong kepada kelompok generasi milineal. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa media sosial beserta kontennya menjadi instrumen penting dalam membentuk pola perilaku politik generasi milineal. Peran itu antara lain ditunjukkan bahwa generasi milineal saat ini tidak bisa dilepaskan dari media sosial, konten media sosial memberikan pengetahuan politik tentang profil calon dalam kontentasi pemilu, konten media sosial memberikan pendidikan politik baik terkait dengan teknis pelaksanaan pemilu dan juga visi-misi para kandidat, serta, generasi milenial memiliki komunitas yang menjadi wadah untuk berdiskusi terkait konten media sosial itu.

Setiap individu perlu berkomunikasi dengan lebih baik, manusia mengembangkan metode komunikasi dan media. Di era sekarang ini, media komunikasi telah sangat bervariasi berkat perkembangan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK). Penggunaan media sosial saat ini tidak terbatas pada percakapan sehari-hari, tetapi telah diperluas ke komunikasi politik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberitahukan peran media sosial dalam komunikasi politik. Pendekatan penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi kasus. Tekhnik pengumpulan data menggunakan tekhnik analisis tentang peran media sosial dalam komunikasi politik. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa peran media sosial dalam komunikasi politik. Dimana peran media sosial dalam komunikasi politik antaranya adalah meningkatkan efektivitas dan efesiensi kampanye politik, mendekatkan politisi dengan pemilihnya, dan memediasi komunikasi politik dengan audiens lebih luas.

It is argued that media have great impact on human beings. Mass communication was able to persuade the public from cognitive (knowledge) and affective aspects (emotional and feeling) to changes in behavior. These effects are related to each other. This is due to the fact that when people receive messages, they do not immediately accept it, but the messages are filtered with careful consideration. And there are still personal and social factors which determine the extent to which mass media have impacts on changes in human attitudes and behavior. Indeed, humans live in a world that is filled with a variety of needs and interests, in which the media has a big role. The people's actions may not directly result from the influence of the media. However, it cannot be denied that the global community will increasingly depend on the media.

The development of communication technology has penetrated the lives of human beings. One form of communication is the development of new media technologies who gave birth to social media. Political world is also not free from the influence of new media and social media. Social media are like two sides of a coin for political actors. On the one hand, the success by using social media is getting positive support. But on the other hand failure by using social media is the risk by damaging the image. This paper discusses the challenges and opportunities of social media on political actors. Exposure to the use of social media in political communication becomes the first part of this paper. The second section discusses the challenges faced by political actors in the 2.0 era. The third section gives an offer opportunities for political actors in the utilization of social media. There is also the fourth and final section is a conclusion that contains what should be done by political actors to minimize the risks and maximize the opportunities offered by social media. Social media is one of the tools of political parties to introduce or campaign for parties and candidates for people's representatives. This study aims to find out how effective political parties are using internet-based social media for campaigning, as well as knowing the positive and negative impacts of social media used by political parties to campaign or promote their parties. The data taken in this study I collected from several journals, books and literature. Era keterbukan berpolitik pasca runtuhnya Orde baru, secara tidak langsung berdampak pada proses demokrasi di Indonesia. Munculnya partai-partai baru, entah dengan basis dukungan massa yang jelas atas hanya sekedar euphoria demokrasi, menjadikan tantangan tersendiri bagi keberadaan partaipartai “sesepuh”. Tidak hanya itu, partai-partai baru pun juga dihadapkan pada upaya untuk mengenalkan keberadaannya kepada rakyat.
