This essay is about the introduction of ICT in the training programmes designed for English teachers in India. English teachers, who complete their education with literature, immediately join schools and colleges as language teachers without any pre-service and inservice training. They are expected to teach English as a second/foreign language to the young pupils as efficiently and effectively as possible with a mastery over all components and skills of the language. For this task, they must undertake rigorous training in ELT attending summer institutes and workshops. Communicative English (CE) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) should be made the compulsory components as they have been included in all syllabi of Indian universities. There should be a proper planning and implementation of teacher-training programmes at the national and regional levels.

Use of digital technology makes the language teaching and learning livelier, creative and interesting. Digital technology has great collision on screen texts – computer games, the internet, television and films. This paper focuses on how films can be used to improve and enhance the learning experience. Films are ideal vehicles for involving all pupils, everyone viewing together, generating curiosity, problem solving and group effort as they make sense of what they see together and individually. Teachers can get a perfect opportunity to adopt a more flexible and creative approach towards language, elucidation and meaning by using selected films in their classroom. —A great number of articles have been written about English language teaching and the use of ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) during the last decade, achieving a laudable outcome. Recent literature has shown that the use of ICTs in the language classroom has a lot to offer to both learners and teachers, with learners enhancing their vocabulary, improving their reading and speaking skills, and with teachers having to hold a double role; the role of the educator and that of the facilitator, while having to cope with complex situations which include lack of training or lack of equipment in the language classroom. In this paper we shall review and present some representative studies on this field during the last decade.
