This paper describes on the aerodynamic characteristics of the first domestically manufactured aircraft, Buhwalho, in Korea. The computational fluid dynamics(CFD) calculations and wind tunnel test were utilized to investigate the basic aerodynamic characteristics of aircraft with control surface deflections and attitude changes. Variations of lift, drag and pitching moment due to angles of attack and control surface deflections were analyzed and also flight stability due to side force, yawing and rolling moments caused by the change of sideslip angles, rudder and aileron deflections were discussed. Through this study, the meaningful aerodynamic data by CFD calculations and wind tunnel tests were obtained and the flight characteristics based on these data were confirmed accordingly by the flight tests.

According to the 5th national plan for electric power demand and supply, the 3rd HVDC link will be installed between KEPCO and Jeju Island system and go into operation in June, 2016. However, if it adopt LCC HVDC, Jeju power system could be in voltage instable condition. In order to solve the problem, we propose the application of VSC HVDC to the 3rd HVDC project. In the past, VSC HVDC has many disadvantages such as, inefficiency in conversion, size limit, and expensiveness, compared to LCC HVDC. Recently, the new technologies and the demand for renewable energy interconnection are leading a large growth in VSC HVDC market. In this paper, we will introduce the technical and market trends of VSC HVDC and power system stability analysis results for Jeju power system having LCC and VSC HVDCs.

This paper discusses about analyzing in-wheel vehicle's dynamic motion and load torque. Since in-wheel vehicle controls each left and right driving wheels, it is dangerous if vehicle's wheels are not in a cooperative control. First, this study builds the main wheel control logic using PID control theory and evaluates the stability. Using Carsim-Matlab/Simulink, vehicle dynamic motion is simulated in virtual 3D driving road. Through this, in-wheel vehicle's driving performance can be analyzed. The target vehicle is a rear-wheel drive in D-class sedan. Second, by using the first In-wheel vehicle's performance results, it derivate the drive motor's dynamic load torque for applying the dynamometer. Extracted load torque impute to dynamometer's load motor, linear experiment in dynamometer can replicated the 3-D road driving status. Also it, will be able to evaluate the more accurate performance analysis and stability, as a previous step of actual vehicle experiment.

In this study, the aeroelastic analysis of rotorcraft in forward flight has been performed using dynamic inflow model to handle unsteady aerodynamics. The quasi-steady airload model based on the blade element method has been coupled with dynamic inflow model developed by Peters and He. The nonlinear steady response to periodic motion is obtained by integrating the full finite element equation in time through a coupled trim procedure with a vehicle trim for stability analysis. The aerodynamic and structural characteristics of dynamic inflow model are validated against other numerical analysis results by comparing induced inflow and blade tip deflections(flap, lag). In order to validate aeroelastic stability of dynamic inflow model, lag damping are also compared with those of linear inflow model.

In this study, the finite element analysis was carried out to investigate dynamic characteristics of the AGF(Active Gurney Flap) which is under development for reducing vibration and noise of the helicopter rotor system. The Gurney flap is a kind of small flat plate, mounted normal to the lower surface of the airfoil near to the trailing edge. An electric motor, L-shaped linkages and flap parts were integrated into a rotor bade, and 3~5/rev control was given to the AGF to reduce the vibration in the fixed frame. Thus, an explicit time integration method was adopted to investigate the dynamic response of the AGF with considering both centrifugal force due to the rotor rotation and active control input, and it can be seen that the vertical displacement of the AGF was satisfied to meet the design requirement.

Engineering education accreditation, such as by ABEEK in Korea or ABET in USA, centers around outcomes-based education (OBE). Outcomes are the abilities or competencies which students are expected to achieve by the time of graduation. Engineering programs must design the curriculum, educate their students, and assess the performance of them in accordance with the program outcomes. Consequently, sound understanding of the program outcomes is crucial to the successful implementation of OBE. Most of the 12 outcomes of ABEEK KEC2005 criteria came from ABET criteria written in English. It means that, apart from sound understanding of the outcomes, we need to care about the correct translation of the ABET outcomes from English to Korean. The translation of them as in KEC2005, however, leaves something to be desired. This paper tries to present the correct translation of some program outcomes as well as sound understanding of a few outcomes difficult to define.

For OBC (On-Board Charger) and LDC (Low DC-DC Converter) used as essential power conversion systems of PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), system performance is required as well as reliability, which is need to protect the vehicle and driver from various faults. While current development processor is sufficient for embodying functions and verifying performance in normal state during development of prototypes for OBC and LDC, there is no clear method of verification for various fault situations that occur in abnormal state and for securing stability of vehicle base, unless verification is performed by mounting on an actual vehicle. In this paper, a CCM (Charger Converter Module) was developed as an integrated structure of OBC and LDC. In addition, diverse fault situations that can occur in vehicles are simulated by a simulator to artificially inject into power conversion system and to test whether it operates properly. Also, HILS (Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation) is carried out to verify whether LDC is operated properly under power environment of an actual vehicle.

General household vacuum cleaners consist of dust collector, pre filter, motor and exhaust filter, and the filtered clean air is discharged to the atmosphere. By using the CFD methods, we estimated the internal flow in two types of commercial cyclone vacuum cleaners to evaluate the dust collection performance. From the analysis, it was known that the number of revolution had higher values in cyclone cone region. CFD analysis in a specific showed non-uniform velocity distribution at outlet, which results in the deterioration of particle collection performance. In order to improve flow condition, the installation of baffle was proposed and the values of velocity RMS were estimated.
